The recent international break is giving us a glimpse into what we can expect in the summer. After the club season is over, we will have two major international competitions in the summer. One is the CONMEBOL Copa America tournament being held in the United States of America, and the other is the UEFA Euro tournament in Germany.
With a diverse cast of heavyweight nations like Argentina, Brazil, USA, Uruguay among others, this year’s Copa America edition looks to be one of the most interesting in years. And we can already get an early glimpse into the tournament.
CONMEBOL reveals 2024 Copa America groups
The 2024 Copa America tournament groups were sorted out yesterday, with some very interesting groups. 16 teams will be participating in this year’s edition, with 4 groups with each consisting of 4 teams. 6 of the teams will be from the CONCACAF while the rest 10 are from CONMEBOL. The group stage had been seeded before, but required two teams from the CONCACAF Nations League, with Canada and Costa Rica the qualified teams.
Group A will see reigning tournament champions and World Cup winners Argentina, Peru and Chile, along with Canada, who will play for the first time in the tournament. Group B will see 13 time Gold Cup winners Mexico take on Ecuador, Venezuela, and Jamaica.

Group C has the USA pitted against the likes of Panama, Bolivia, and South American heavyweights Uruguay. Group D will see five time World Cup winners Brazil face Colombia, Paraguay, and Costa Rica.
The top two teams from each group will qualify for the next stage, which will be the quarterfinals. After that, there will be the semi-finals and the final, while there will also be a third place playoff game.
Marking dates for Argentina, USA, Brazil’s group games
With fans excited about the big tournament, all eyes are on three big teams. They are on title holders Argentina, and five time-World Cup winners Brazil as well as the USA as well, which is hosting the tournament ahead of the 2026 World Cup which it will also host. The venues for the games have already been decided.
Argentina will begin the tournament with the opening game against Canada on 20th June, then follow it up with a clash against Chile on 25th June and another against Peru on 29th June.
Meanwhile the US national team will have their first game against Bolivia on 23rd June, then their second and third games against Panama and Uruguay respectively on 27th June and 1st July.
Brazil’s first game will be on 24th June against Costa Rica, their second against Paraguay on 28th June, and their last group stage game on 2nd July against Colombia.
The 2024 Copa America does look to be very interesting and new, and will start after the club season is over in the summer on 20th June.
