4 years after leaving Tom Brady unimpressed with IG post, former Patriots DE Chase Winovich uses the platform for his signing-off message

Just like other promising players, Chase Winovich wished to enter the competitive landscape of the NFL after his tenure at Thomas Jefferson and the University of Michigan. The New England Patriots helped his dream come true by selecting him in the third round of the 2019 NFL draft.

The transition from linebacker to tight end and eventually to defensive end, Winovich encountered a brief yet challenging journey throughout the entirety of his illustrious football tenure. Although it has not yet been a full decade since embarking on his NFL journey, the seasoned athlete believes he has reached the end of his glorious profession.

Chase Winovich announces retirement

Winovich spent most of his career donning the Patriots jersey and played 45 games for them while recording 11 sacks, 86 tackles, a forced fumble, and an interception. Following his tenure with the team, he bounced from one franchise.

The defensive star has decided to hang up his cleats after spending less than five years in the league. In a social media post, the young star announced his retirement decision while saying it’s time for him to serve the world in other ways.

“The time has come for me to serve the universe in other ways. I consider myself beyond blessed and deeply grateful to have had the opportunity to play the game I love in front of so many and on some of the world’s biggest stages. To quote my friend Matthew Slater ‘we all owe football something’ and that I certainly do,” via CBS News.

The 28-year-old athlete showcased his outstanding abilities and prowess on the field during his three-season stint with the Pats. He exhibited remarkable ability to dominate the game by leading the team with an impressive tally of 5.5 sacks, a feat accomplished during the illustrious year of 2020. Subsequently, he was traded to the Cleveland Browns ahead of the 2022 season, albeit his tenure with the franchise proved to be rather brief.

The ex-Patriots star inked a one-year deal with the Houston Texans ahead of the 2023 season but was released shortly after that. He later signed to the Miami Dolphins practice squad and played three games for the team before getting released a week ago.

Winovich’s interaction with Brady from 2019

Despite frequently teasing fans with unretirement rumors, the NFL GOAT Tom Brady is unlikely to take a U-turn for the second time. Before parting with the Patriots to get enrolled in the Tampa Bay Buccaneers squad, he had a short stint with Winovich.

Back in 2019, TB12 hilariously called out the then-rookie star for his Instagram post. The Pats third-round draft pick shared a picture with some cheesy lines, and Tom Terrific commented on the post to remind him to study his playbook. However, it was more like a fun banter among the former teammates.

When the California Cool was rumored to bid adieu to the NFL in 2020, Chase took to Instagram to beg him to stay with the Patriots, using the “#pleaseDad”, “#NotAllowedtoLeave”, and “#goat” hashtags. Brady indeed played in the NFL later, but as a Bucs member.

The Michigan product got the opportunity to meet TB12 as a rival when the Pats had a contest against the Bucs at Gillette Stadium in 2021, and prior to the match, he expressed excitement to face off against his former teammate on the field. The ex-Patriots defensive star even dedicated an Instagram video to the career of Brady following his first retirement in 2022 and said he was “upset” with the announcement. Now, he himself is retired, while Brady is busy with his sports investments, business, podcast, and obviously, his family.
