The Seattle Seahawks have only lost once since their November triumph against the Washington Commanders. Currently in Week 14, the team holds the third position in the NFC West with a 6-7 record that could use some improvement. Four of their last seven games ended in defeat.
With Geno Smith and other important players going down with injuries this season, the Seahawks have had a tough time keeping up with the game. Despite the team’s recent four-game losing streak, there have been some controversies surrounding their wide receiver, DK Metcalf, and his involvement in on-field brawls. Now, a San Francisco 49ers player has an interesting response to Metcalf’s actions.
49ers player mocks DK Metcalf in sign language
DK Metcalf got involved in an ugly brawl with some of the 49ers players in the Week 14 match between these two teams. The rivals couldn’t forget the Seahawks player’s actions in the postgame locker room as the aftermath of the game saw the continuation of the confrontation through social media.
San Francisco long snapper Taybor Pepper took to X, sharing a video of himself signing a message in American Sign Language (ASL). His cryptic post inquired if anyone understood ASL, later confirmed to translate as “No. 14 f—d around and found out.”
DK Metcalf’s use of ASL as a touchdown celebration in recent games against other teams has garnered attention and praise from the Deaf community. Initially debuting this celebratory move against the Los Angeles Rams and repeating it in the game against the Dallas Cowboys, he had expressed his intention to leverage sign language to circumvent fines associated with verbal trash-talking on the field.
The contentious move resurfaced in the game against the Niners as well, where the WR, after scoring in the first quarter, celebrated his touchdown with ASL once again.
Why did Seahawks’ DK Metcalf get ejected?
DK Metcalf’s on-field intensity and emotions have been a double-edged sword this season, as proved by his recent outburst during the match against the 49ers. His encounter with Fred Warner escalated after an interception play, leading to a series of physical altercations.
The WR’s tackle on Warner after an interception drew a penalty flag. The situation intensified as he persisted in holding onto the 49ers star even after the ball was passed to Dre Greenlaw. This incident later led to a forceful takedown, followed by Metcalf grabbing Warner’s facemask in retaliation.
The Seahawks receiver provided his stance on the incident, saying he was just retaliating after being hit by Warner, via the 49ers Webzone.
“If you want to call it frustration, yeah, it was frustration. But from my side, he hit me in the back of the head. So I just retaliated from that.”
The veteran also continued his justification, saying he was trying to make a defensive play because he thought Warner still had the ball. Meanwhile, this incident isn’t isolated, as the Seahawks star has faced multiple penalties throughout the season, which have ruined his reputation as one of the most penalized receivers in the league. However, he remains resolute in his playing style, indicating no intention to alter his aggressive approach despite the incurred penalties.
DK Metcalf was also spotted giving a strong shove to a Los Angeles Rams player during the Rams vs. Seahawks clash. This action led to the Rams cornerback being evaluated by trainers before heading to the bench under his own power.
