Even when the New York Jets’ new starter Aaron Rodgers scored an interception during the team’s training camp, netizens started trolling Dak by drawing a comparison with A-Rod. Now, after the Cowboys’ move of acquiring the San Francisco 49ers star Trey Lance in recent trade on Friday, the Cowboys QB1 has again become the subject of memeing ahead of the new season.

The renowned ESPN personality Stephen A. Smith didn’t like the trade of Lance and following the move, provided his take on this matter. Smith raised a question over the Cowboys’ decision to pick another QB despite witnessing their QB2 Cooper Rush going 5-1 as a starter last year. He also noted the franchise secured the 49ers first-round pick as they don’t have trust in Prescott.

Not just the ESPN analyst, many fans also speculated the trade for Trey means Dallas doesn’t want to bank on Dak anymore. Given the team’s opportunity to get out of the signal-callers contract after this season despite having two years left, it became a hot topic of discussion. However, the former NFL QB Robert Griffin III stayed in favor of the veteran and blamed the Cowboys for introducing a new series of criticism for the QB by initiating the 49ers trade.

The Cowboys starter’s main drawback has been interceptions as he threw 15 interceptions throughout 12 games last season while summing the total number to 65 in his career. Meanwhile, Lance also couldn’t prove his worth in San Francisco after getting drafted with the No. 3 spot in the 2021 NFL Draft and he is expected to play as a third-string QB after Rush.

Some fans even claimed the trade would benefit the Mississippi state native as he would now feel more pressure to continue being Dallas QB1.

Prescott has miserably failed to showcase his caliber in the playoffs, having a record of 2 wins and 4 losses. Nevertheless, the Cowboys front office continued staying loyal to their veteran over time. Now, with Lance’s acquisition, it remains to be seen how long the partnership continues.
