After setting his footmark in the Canadian Football League, Nathan Rourke joined the Jacksonville Jaguars just before this season to prove his prowess to the NFL world. Rourke’s amazing performance in the preseason games demanded his inclusion in their final roster for Week 1 after he guided them to victory.
In order to get to their 53-man opening-day rosters, all NFL teams are having difficulty since many of them must waive players they had intended to play with during the regular season. With many astonishing names, the season’s roster-cutting day was marked as a bad day for Rouke as well.
Nathan Rourke waived off by the Jaguars
The Jaguars team released the former CFL standout quarterback on Monday, according to NFL Network insider Dov Kleiman’s report. Prior to this season, the former great quarterback of the BC Lions made visits to 12 organizations. He ultimately decided to sign a reserve/future contract with the Jaguars.

After playing football for Ohio University (2017–19) and Fort Scott Community College in Kansas (2016), Nathan Rourke declared for the 2021 NFL Draft. He unfortunately didn’t get drafted despite having promising looks.
Despite not having good luck in the NFL, he was able to start out in the CFL after being selected by the BC Lions of the CFL in the second round of the 2020 CFL draft. He had a total of 11 starts during his two seasons with the Lions, throwing for 4,035 yards, 28 touchdowns, and 15 interceptions on 76 percent of his throws.
Patrick Mahomes applauded Nathan Rourke during NFL preseason
Nathan made a dreadful touchdown in the second quarter of the Jaguars’ final preseason game against the Miami Dolphins, which the Jaguars won 31-18. Because of how great his touchdown was, the reigning superstar of the Kansas City Chiefs Patrick Mahomes could not stop cheering the Jaguars player.
When announcing Rourkes’ outstanding touchdown, one Twitter user wrote, “If Patrick Mahomes does this twitter breaks.” The two-time MVP saw that this fantastic performance deserved a lot of cheers, and by sharing the post, he gave the CFL stars a shout-out while proclaiming his superiority: “That was nasty!!!”

The Jaguars’ head coach Doug Pederson was similarly taken aback by his play, and he opened out about the Nathan Rourke after the game, heaping praise on him. The quarterback effectively completed the task that Pederson assigned to him by leading his team in the second half of the contest by going 4-for-6 for 74 yards.
“I haven’t seen too many plays like that, even in a preseason game. Hats off to him. He did a nice job leading that group in the second half and was able to put us in the end zone, and then he had a touchdown run, too, so I thought he had a real good second half.”
As a result of the surprising Jaguar decision, the young man who grew up idolizing Brett Fevre and had a great ambition to win a Super Bowl has once again met terrible bad luck.
