Jerry Lawler makes surprise return to WWE RAW

On the latest episode of  WWE Raw in Memphis, fans from Tennessee were in for a special treat as WWE Hall of Famer Jerry Lawler aka The King made a guest appearance in his hometown. WWE superstars Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn introduced the legendary wrestler and iconic commentator during a commercial break segment of that episode, after Zayn’s match against Judgement Day member Damian Priest. Zayn and Owens said that they were unhappy at the way Zayn lost his match, but their spirits were lifted when they saw Jerry Lawler backstage.

“Look, I’m not gonna lie. I was in a pretty bad mood after getting screwed yet again by the Judgment Day, and I walked back here pretty upset. But the second I walked through that curtain, my mood changed right away. Because, ladies and gentlemen, after all, we are in Memphis, right?” said Zayn.

“And there’s someone back there you guys might be a little familiar with and he cheered us up, so we figured we’d spread the joy by bringing him out. Ladies and gentlemen, Jerry “The King” Lawler,” said Kevin Owens, to which fans went wild and chanted the Hall of Famer’s name. Jerry waved to the roaring crowd and then returned backstage alongside Owens and Zayn.

Lawler suffered a stroke earlier this year

It was back in February this year when WWE Hall of Famer Jerry Lawler suffered a serious stroke. Prior to that, the 73-year-old legendary wrestler and per-time announcer was still regularly giving his presence on WWE TV as part of Kickoff Shows for PLE. It was not the first time when the Hall of Famer Jerry had medical complexity.

Back in September 2012 during a live WWE Raw broadcast, Jerry Lawler suffered a heart attack while he was on commentary. Lawler was in a match earlier in the show, and, due to repeated elbow drops from Dolph Ziggler, it led to a serious heart attack. Miraculously, Lawler was out of danger even after such an incident and has wrestled many times at independent wrestling shows in the years that followed.

Dutch Mantel is a former WWE star known as Zeb Colter who is a fan of Jerry Lawler. They worked together for many years in Memphis and all around the world. While speaking on his “Story Time” podcast, Mantel shared some information about how Jerry Lawler is doing these days about four months after he suffered a stroke.

“I have heard, this is news on Jerry Lawler. You know, the recent stroke that he had in February that put him in the hospital almost killed him, and he’s had some more mini-strokes along the way. He is much better, but still not recovering as well as they would hope. He has trouble finishing sentences. I mean, he talks well. His voice has changed somewhat. He talks, but when he gets to the end of the sentence, he starts searching for words to end the sentence and he gets frustrated.” said Dutch Mantel aka Zeb Colter.

As Mantel continued, he talked about how Jerry Lawler was having issues with his right hand, “He’s an artist, but he’s having trouble with his right hand. I think he had it on, strokes are odd, on the left side of the body. It affects the other side, so I think he had it on his left side.

“He’s right-handed. He has trouble now doing his art, which is really frustrating him because he was, and still is probably a tremendous artist, but he is not where he needs to be. Jerry, we have the same birthday, same year, same day. I say that all the time. I used to call him my cosmic brother, but I hope he gets better and I hope he’s okay.”
