CM Punk’s injury at this year’s Royal Rumble match has saddened WWE fans and caused significant changes in WrestleMania plans. Punk suffered a torn triceps muscle during the Royal Rumble match and announced he will not be participating in WrestleMania 40.
However, recent reports confirm that WWE is actively working on Punk’s possible appearance on live TV, not as a performer but as a part of the commentary team on WWE RAW.
WWE eyes Punk for commentary role during recovery period
CM Punk’s long time friend and former backstage producer of AEW, Ace Steel, recently addressed the current situation of Punk’s injury and the plans for him at the WrestleMania 40.
Steel said, “Definitely, they want him commentary, they want him on commentary. I don’t know that they go that route since they did an injury angle to pull him out since they did the storyline on him; stomps on his arm. I really don’t want to see him on the same show as Drew Mcintyre because his sole focus would be going after Drew Mcintyre.”
Steel confirmed that WWE surely wants CM Punk as a commentator along with Pat McAfee and Michael Cole in RAW. He also said, it would be a bad move, as it may possibly affect the ongoing storyline between Punk and Drew McIntyre, who confronted Punk in a RAW episode after the Royal Rumble.
Steel also pointed out that many WWE fans are considering Punk’s injury as part of the storyline, and they speculate that he might be faking it. However, WWE has not officially confirmed when Punk will appear on live TV. The WWE’s plan for Punk is eagerly anticipated by fans, as he has previously taken on a similar role during his injury hiatus in 2010.
CM Punk spotted at WWE SmackDown and Performance Center, fueling speculation
CM Punk’s return to WWE at Survivor Series 2023 was met with shocking reactions from fans. WWE heightened expectations by teasing a feud with the WWE World Heavyweight Champion, Seth Rollins. The possibility of a clash at WrestleMania 40 increased until the injury of Seth Rollins.
After a week since Rollin’s injury, his opponent Punk was also injured during his bout with Drew McIntyre, at the Royal Rumble 2024. Punk made clear that he required a surgery and will take about 5 months to recover from the injury.
According to various reports, Punk was spotted backstage at Friday’s WWE SmackDown during the segment between Cody Rhodes and The Rock. He was also seen at the WWE Performance Center in Orlando, Florida and this has fueled the speculation about his in ring return.
Since his return to WWE in 2023, Punk is frequently visiting the Performance Center and performing with the NXT talents. But his recent appearance has made confusions among the WWE fans, who beleives that WWE is faking his injury as a part of a storyline.
