Lisandro Martinez has penned a heartfelt message to Manchester United fans, thanking them for their support and assuring them he would be back on the pitch soon after the club released a statement confirming how long he would be out for.
The Manchester United defender suffered a fresh injury in the club’s 3-0 win over West Ham United on Sunday under a heavy challenge from Vladimir Coufal. He struggled to continue the game but was eventually subbed off at the hour mark, with Raphael Varane replacing the World Cup winner.
“I want to give a heartfelt thanks for the great support I’ve received and to assure you that I’ll soon be back out there and we’ll fight together,” Lisandro Martinez said in a social media post.
Lisandro Martinez has been an outstanding player since joining Manchester United, but his injury history hasn’t been that good. The Argentine spent over four months on the sidelines towards the end of last season when he suffered a foot injury, which caused him to undergo surgery.
Martinez is one of the injury-ravaged players at United this season, with the club also suffering from injuries to big names like Casemiro, Eriksen, Maguire, Shaw, and Hojlund at some point in the season.

The initial fear after Lisandro Martinez went down in the 3-0 win over West Ham United on Sunday was that he had damaged his ACL. Even Ten Hag admitted that the initial prognosis was bad, but only proper tests would confirm the severity of the injury.
Manchester United confirmed in a statement on their website that Lisandro Martinez will miss up to eight weeks of action due to his knee injury.
“Lisandro Martinez has sustained an injury to the medial collateral ligament in his knee and is expected to be out of action for at least eight weeks,” the club confirmed.
“The Argentine defender left the field in the 71st minute of our 3-0 win over West Ham United at Old Trafford on Sunday. We all wish Licha a speedy recovery and look forward to seeing him back on the pitch later in the season,” the statement continued.
