John Cena is a megastar in both the Hollywood industry as well as WWE. The Cenation Leader successfully transitioned into the movie industry after having an extremely successful career in WWE. He also keeps up appearances in WWE, usually appearing and wrestling about 2-3 times a year in the ring. In a recent interview, Cena talked about his fellow wrestler-turned-actors, The Rock and Batista in particular, and how they inspired him to transition into Hollywood.
It’s no wonder that so many wrestlers have transitioned into the movie industry, considering that their jobs mostly required them to hold the attention of the fans perform stunts and be a part of storylines. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Dave Bautista are two of the most famous names alongside John Cena who became huge Hollywood stars after their careers in WWE.
Cena opened up about emulating Batista and The Rock’s Hollywood success
The Rock was actually one of the first wrestlers to transition into a movie star after a successful run in WWE. Following in his footsteps, were two notable names, Batista and John Cena. Despite not finding much success initially, both Batista and Cena eventually landed huge roles in two of the biggest industries in Hollywood. While Batista played Drax the Destroyer in the MCU’s Guardians of the Galaxy, both Cena and The Rock belong to the DC Universe, with The Cenation Leader playing the role of Peacemaker and The Brahma Bull playing Black Adam.
John Cena’s breakthrough in the movie industry would arguably happen when he starred in James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad as Peacemaker. He went on to star in his own spinoff series based on the character and was also featured in the blockbuster F9. In a recent interview with GQ, Cena talked about his career in Hollywood and the character of John Cena that he plays in WWE.
He also reminisced about his days in WWE and how The Rock and Batista paved the road for him while he was transitioning into a movie star. He was able to emulate their success in the movie industry and became a huge star.
What was the first movie John Cena appeared in?
It’s been almost 17 years since John Cena transitioned into a Hollywood star. Although he is now generally considered a good actor, that wasn’t always the case. His first movie, The Marine, which was released by WWE Studios in 2006, received a ton of negative reviews when it first came out. Cena’s performance in the movie was pretty lackluster, compared to his performances now.
At that time, John Cena was basically ordered by Vince McMahon to do the movie. Cena said that he just wanted to obey his boss back then and wasn’t too focused on making the movie as it wasn’t his top priority at the time. The movie ended up being a huge flop, but it definitely taught Cena a lot of things.
John Cena has confirmed that he will be making appearances in WWE for 7 consecutive weeks starting this week. Although it’s not clear as to whether he would wrestle at all of his appearances, fans are still looking forward to seeing The Cenation Leader step into the ring once again.
