The Kansas City Chiefs and Patrick Mahomes will take on the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday night in Las Vegas. The quarterback will fight to become the first quarterback since Tom Brady to win consecutive titles.
Players from the Chiefs and 49ers had to face media questions in Monday night’s Super Bowl LVIII Opening Ceremony. Mahomes was asked many questions throughout the session, including his father’s recent arrest. But his response about the Muppet character, Kermit the Frog, made fans burst into laughter.
Watch: Patrick Mahomes drops his best Kermit the Frog impression
Patrick Mahomes was challenged to showcase his best Kermit the Frog impression during a media session on Monday, February 5. The QB did not take a beat and retorted in an almost Kermit-like voice saying, “I’m talking right now and that’s it.”
There has been a long-time joke that Patrick Mahomes’ voice is quite similar to that of the Muppet character. While the 2-time Super Bowl champion could have turned down the request in a different fashion, he decided to be a good sport and went along.
Meanwhile, Patrick Mahomes’ prowess on the gridiron has been exceptional as always. Since assuming the role of the Chiefs’ QB1 in 2018, he has consistently dazzled audiences with his remarkable talent and leadership abilities.
However, the signal-caller has already boosted his playoff record. But he aims to elevate the Chiefs to the status of “America’s Team,” a title held by iconic franchises in the past. Throughout NFL history, certain teams have earned the moniker of “America’s Team.” In the 1970s, it was the Steelers; the 49ers claimed the title in the ’80s, and the Patriots dominated the 2000s. Pat now aspires to guide the Chiefs to that coveted status.
Why Patrick Mahomes sounds like Kermit?
Patrick Mahomes is not just known for his incredible talent on the football field but also for his distinctive voice. It has even earned him comparisons to Kermit the Frog.
Ahead of Super Bowl LVII in February 2023, the Chiefs star himself has acknowledged the resemblance. Despite the teasing, he took it all in stride, seeing the humor in the comparison. The QB even jokingly expressed hopes of landing a deal, thanks to his unique vocal quality.
“People make fun of my voice for my entire life. I’ve got news about it, it’s like the joke that keeps giving. I’ve heard it all. I’ve heard of Kermit the Frog, I’ve heard the smoking cigarettes, whatever it is, but it’s unique, so maybe I’ll get a deal from that for having that unique voice”, he said.
Pat said his teammates have also joined in on the fun by playfully teasing him about his distinctive voice. However, he doesn’t shy away from banter and is quick to fire back at his teammates. Even Andy Reid couldn’t resist commenting on Mahomes’ voice. The HC once described it as “unique” and playfully dubbed it “froggish” during an interview.
