A WBC super lightweight title fight between Devin Haney and Ryan Garcia is official as both fighters have agreed to terms for a fight on April 20 in Las Vegas. Haney and Garcia were supposed to face off inside the ring in the past, but the fight did not materialize, and they went their separate ways. The duo has known each other since their early days on the amateur boxing circuit, where they faced off six times, splitting the victories equally.

Ryan Garcia recently had trouble with his management team of Oscar De La Hoya and Bernard Hopkins and was even linked to Floyd Mayweather. Moreover, Mayweather even promoted the idea of a potential bout between Garcia and Rolly Romero.
As for Haney, a bout with the undefeated WBA lightweight champion Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis was rumored. Saudi Advisor Turki Alalshikh even publicly stated the idea of making the fight in Saudi Arabia. However, Davis demanded two Ferraris for the fight to happen.

Ryan Garcia had already started taking shots at his upcoming opponent, Devin Haney, on social media. “I ask you guys to pray for Devin and his health. Pray his dad stops this fight”, Garcia captioned his Instagram post of the fight poster. “He will be needed to be carried out if this fight doesn’t get stopped at the appropriate time,” Garcia further added.
Garcia continued his attack on Haney as he posted videos of his unexpected face-off with the WBC Super lightweight champion on Instagram. “Ran up on Devin and he crumbled. STOP LETTING YOUR DAD PIMP YOU! 🔥🔥”, Garcia captioned the video post. “I’m crushing you. Daddy Bill Almost cried. He will cry in the fight 🥲”, Garcia further added trolling Haney’s father Bill.
The trolling did not stop there, as Garcia posted yet another video on Instagram; this time it was his interaction with Bill Haney. “Devin your dad can’t fight for you. HAHAHAHAH that was actually funny. Bill almost had a heart attack. Let the young guns go at it 😤”, Garcia captioned his second Instagram video post.
Ryan Garcia had faced off with Haney inside the ring after he defeated Francisco Fonseca in the first round and retained the WBC Silver Lightweight title on February 14, 2020. Haney was the WBC lightweight champion at the time and he hoped inside the ring to have the face-off. That face-off has now set the stage for a highly anticipated clash on April 20, 2024.
