Soccer and the NFL are two sports that are highly watched and followed, even among athletes from each other. Manchester United and Manchester City are two fierce rivals on the pitch, sharing a historic and deadly rivalry. But the two sides of Manchester are united in their love for the NFL.
Many soccer athletes are involved and love the NFL, and a special time of the year has come for them. Like every other fan of the American sport, they are excited about the upcoming Super Bowl final.
Manchester United players predict Super Bowl winner
The Super Bowl LVIII is set to take place tomorrow, with defending champions the Kansas City Chiefs taking on the San Francisco 49ers. The match is garnering much hype, even outside of the USA, where the sport is primarily based. Soccer athletes have been quite involved with the sport in recent times, meeting up with NBA superstars many times. A famous example is the meeting between Tom Brady and Cristiano Ronaldo, which is said to have brought Brady out of retirement briefly.
As such, many of the athletes have favorites for tomorrow’s highly anticipated final, including some Manchester United stars. In a social media post, Manchester United asked their stars to predict the winner of the Super Bowl.
New teenage sensation Kobbie Mainoo voiced his support for the Chiefs, with Luke Shaw, Diogo Dalot, and Jonny Evans sharing the same sentiment. Manchester United’s women superstars, Mary Earps and Hannah Blundell, also predicted the Chiefs to win. Christian Eriksen also supported the Chiefs and mentioned their star quarterback, Patrick Mahomes, as well. Only backup goalkeeper Tom Heaton showed support for the 49ers, being the odd one out, while most of them support the Chiefs.
City players side with Chiefs ahead of Super Bowl
Manchester City also did the same with their own players, sharing a video to their social media platforms. Jack Grealish, Kyle Walker, Jeremy Doku and John Stones chose Chiefs for the victory, while Josko Gvardiol had no idea who will win. De Bruyne seems to be carrying his soccer intelligence to American football as well, as he hoped Chiefs to win but predicted 49ers to win.
Phil Foden had no idea about the game and seems to not follow the sport, and Ruben Dias also preferred not to speak on the matter. Rodri, Nathan Ake, and Manuel Akanji chose the Chiefs as well, with Akanji also predicting a low-scoring game.
It seems that both sides of Manchester see eye to eye in a rare instance, as the majority of players predict the Kansas City Chiefs to win the game, with only two votes for the 49ers each. The players will be watching the game to really see who wins the Super Bowl tomorrow night.
