Days after Trey Lance’s trade, Cowboys star drops candid take on Micah Parsons’ defensive player of the year chances

The Dallas Cowboys secured a generational talent by selecting Micah Parsons in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft. The linebacker broke out in his first year and earned the accolade of ‘Defensive Rookie of the Year’, an All-Pro, and a Pro Bowler.

Micah continued his excellence in 2022 as well and became an All-Pro and a Pro Bowler once again, albeit he couldn’t win the AP Defensive Player of the Year despite being nominated for the title back-to-back two years. One of the Cowboys stars projected him to earn the accolade this year following his phenomenal performance in defense. Banking on Parsons in terms of offense, Dallas recently acquired Trey Lance to bolster their defense ahead of the new season.

Micah Parsons poised for Defensive Player of the Year title

According to Jon Machota of The Athletic, Dallas veteran Jayron Kearse said if he made a bet, he would put his money on Parsons to win the Defensive Player of the Year title this year.

“I expect a Defensive Player of the Year type of year from him. Hands down. If I was a betting guy, my money is on him”, he said.

“I’ve just seen the way he’s come in this year, different than the previous two. He has the ability to wreck a game at any given moment when he wants to. The type of impact I’m expecting him to have is not only for the defense but for the team is tremendous.”

Kearse went on to say the 24-year-old has already started to give the vibe of a potential aggressive performance on the field ahead of the new season.

“Just his mentality in how he’s attacking things this year, it’s much different than I’ve seen in his previous years. He comes in like, ‘I’m the lion.’ He lives like that throughout the day, throughout the week, just like, ‘I’m the baddest guy out here.’ He has shown that. That’s the biggest difference I’ve seen from him.”

However, it is not projected by Micah’s teammate only as the Cowboys’ weapon is +450 to grab the Defensive Player of the Year accolade, per sportsbooks. The two-time Pro Bowler recorded 65 tackles, 13 TFLs along with 13.5 sacks in 17 games till now

49ers send Trey Lance to Cowboys in exchange for 4th round pick

Just after spending around two and a half years, the San Francisco 49ers decided to part ways with their promising star Lance by trading him to Dallas in exchange for a fourth-round draft choice. The decision came after Sam Darnold successfully overshadowed the third-year signal-caller to steal the backup spot behind Brock Purdy.

However, the team’s head coach Kyle Shanahan said the decision was not taken overnight while adding they aimed to keep him on the roster, albeit the timeframe has prompted them to reach a final conclusion.

“It was time to move on for him and for us. We’d love to just keep him until eventually it works out, but that clock ran out here, and that’s why we had to make a real tough decision, one we didn’t enjoy doing, but we try to do what we think is best, and this is what we think is best.”
