Dana White faces backlash for withholding UFC 300 main event announcement from Super Bowl commercial

The popularity of the UFC has attracted viewership for the promotion from other mainstream sports leagues like the NFL. UFC CEO Dana White’s friendship with Tom Brady, the consensus GOAT of American Football, and his frequent attendance at White’s events is a prime example of it.

With Super Bowl LVIII underway, UFC fans expected the announcement of the main event for UFC 300, the highly coveted PPV event of the promotion.

Dana White delaying UFC 300 main event angers MMA community

There was no announcement of the UFC 300 main event at Super Bowl LVIII and the UFC fans made their disgust evident on social media. “DANA WHITE FUMBLED THE UFC 300 SUPERBOWL ANNOUNCEMENT FFS”, commented one fan on X with a video of a group of angry meant attacking a Dana White look alike at a train station.

“MMA fans watching the Super Bowl waiting for a UFC 300 announcement”, commented another fan with a video of WWE superstar Roman Reigns showing distress all the while sitting alongside manager Paul Heyman. The fan meant to show the distress that MMA fans are going through in the hopes of the news of the UFC 300 main event.

“UFC fans begging Dana for the UFC 300 headliner:”, commented yet another fan with the video of Kansas City Chief’s Tight End Travis Kelce screaming at coach Andy Reid amid the Super Bowl LVIII against the San Fransisco 49ers.

Even though fans did not get what they hoped, the favorites Chiefs defeated the 49ers at the Super Bowl LVIII in an overtime 25-22 win courtesy of a scintillating performance from quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

Dana White continues to try to secure the UFC 300 main event

UFC 300 is still without a main event and CEO Dana White is trying his best to secure a blockbuster main event for the PPV. “Who knows who’s going to be the UFC 300 headliner? We’ve been working on it, and it’s been interesting, I can tell you that. Obviously, we want to deliver,” White said at the presser after Power Slap 6.

“I’d announce it now if we had it. We’ve gone through a lot of crazy trying to put this fight together, so it’s been interesting. No date, ASAP is the date,” White further said when asked about when he will announce the main event for UFC 300. As of now, Dricus du Plessis versus Israel Adesanya is seen by fans as the fight the UFC is hoping to make.

“I keep saying this: Figueiredo versus Cody Garbrandt is literally the first fight of the night,” White said of the UFC 300 fight card. “So when you look at the card where it sits today, every single fight could be a main event on a fight night or a pay-per-view,” White further praised the UFC 300 fight card.

Conor McGregor and Michael Chandler flirted with the idea of headlining UFC 300 but White confirmed in the Full Send podcast that the fight is not headlining the PPV. White had earlier said in the Pat McAfee show that they are hoping to get the McGregor versus Chandler fight for the Fall of 2024.
