Former UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez was in jail for his reaction after an unfortunate incident happened to his son at a daycare. Velasquez has since been out on bail after spending months in jail.

Cain Velasquez attempted murder charges explained
Cain Velasquez, the former UFC heavyweight champion, has been entangled in legal proceedings following the attempted murder charge from a 2022 arrest. According to authorities, Velasquez engaged in a high-speed chase targeting a man named Harry Goularte.
Goularte was accused of sexually abusing Velasquez’s son at a daycare which is operated by Goularte’s mother. Goularte was arrested and released on bail and Velasquez got wind of the situation. He pursued Goularte who was with his stepfather, Paul Bender in a car with a shotgun which he fired multiple times.

Cain Velasquez has been charged. He is accused of targeting Harry Eugene Goularte, who is charged with allegedly molesting one of Velasquez's young relatives.

Bender was injured by Velasquez but it was not fatal. Nonetheless, his actions related to this dramatic confrontation got him in jail in what is a complex legal battle. If found guilty, Velasquez may be subjected to life imprisonment.
In his heyday, Velasquez was one of the best fighters ever in the UFC. Training at AKA, Velasquez was the training partner of Daniel Cormier, Luke Rockhold, and Khabib Nurmagomeodv among others.
Why is Cain Velasquez’s trial being delayed?
The trial of Velasquez for attempted murder charges has not been straightforward, as evidenced by his latest court appearance in Santa Clara County, California. Recently, Velasquez appeared in front of two judges, revealing significant hurdles in the proceedings.
The defense’s pursuit of crucial records has proven contentious and is a major cause for the delay. The UFC has been involved in the trial, with Judge Shella Deen ordering the promotion to submit records benefiting Velasquez’s defense by March 6.
Additionally, records from the daycare operated by Goularte’s daycare have been disputed, with the court setting another deadline for April 17. The judge has now scheduled the trial for April 24, 2024.

In addition to the aforementioned obstacles, disagreements over subpoenas and pertinent records have compelled Judge Benjamin Williams to postpone the trial to a later date, despite opposition from the prosecution.
