Smackdown in the Bar: What happened when WWE champions clashed with Hollywood Icon Matt Damon?

Some of the most famous names in professional wrestling have left their imprint in more unconventional settings than others. One of the most odd occurrences that took place was when the Nasty Boys came into contact with none other than Matt Damon before he became famous in Hollywood.

During one of Jerry Sags and Brian Knobbs’ notorious post-show bar crawls, they engaged in a serious confrontation with Damon, where Booker T’s tag team partner Steve Ray was also hanging out. It has been a common subject of discussion on talk programs, and Hall of Famer Booker T and Steve often retell this peculiar experience.

Stevie Ray’s unforgettable encounter with Matt Damon

One interesting allegation circulating in professional wrestling is that Nasty Boys tag team member Brian Knobbs and Hollywood actor Matt Damon got into an altercation. In a recent interview, WWE Hall of Famer Stevie Ray discussed the story and provided some insight into whether or not it is true.

The incident did really happen, as Stevie Ray recollects it from a bar meeting in the early 1990s when he, the Nasty Boys, Haku, and Barbarian saw Damon after a WCW event in Tennessee. Stevie spoke about his reaction to getting to know the Hollywood icon and shared the intensity level during that encounter at the pub while discussing the event on his program Standing Up for Greatness.

The meeting took on an amusing tone when he and Damon engaged in a friendly debate on the acting abilities of Morgan Freeman and Wesley Snipes. Hall of Famer said, “We’re staying at the Holiday Inn. We just got done wrestling. It’s me, Haku, Nasty Boys. We’re waiting in the lobby and we’re going to hit some of the college clubs. I come downstairs and there’s a guy working behind the bar. I remember Knobbs saying, ‘Hey Stevie, do you know this guy?’ Guess who it was, Matt Damon.”

The Nasty Boys’ confusion led to altercation

The Nasty Boys vs. Matt Doman confrontation became a famous story that goes beyond WWE and Hollywood. A member of the Harlem Heat tag team, Stevie Ray revealed this startling incident, illuminating the confusion and tension that developed between the realms of acting and wrestling.

Damon had no idea he would become a household figure until he ran across Knobbs and Jerry Sags, who were also in tag teams, at a random Boston Bar. Matt Damon was famous for his part as a villain in the film School Ties, which the wrestlers supposedly saw as an excuse to attack him. The actor tried to defuse the situation by revealing his name and enjoying a moment of fan optimism, but Sags sprung a surprise punch on Damon’s chest.

The unexpected meeting of these two worlds was forever changed with a lasting mark when Knobbs joined in, even though Damon took the blow. Stevie said about their aggressive response, “It’s only a movie but Sags and Knobbs are taking it for real, We’re marking out and then Knobbs and Sags are like ‘this son of a b**ch’ and (Knobbs) hits him in the f**king chest. He hits him like Larry Holmes. The kid buckles over. Sags hit him too.”

Oh, hi, this is Md Robin Ahmed, a WWE fan and I everyday go through a slew of popular WWE stories on Sportszion. Watching Big Show's Showstopper was the beginning of my passion for WWE, though I have to say that his Chokeslam is not one of my favorite moves. Over time, my love for professional wrestling has intensified, mostly due to the Shield, and my all-time favorite wrestler in WWE is Big Dog. I would give everything to be able to be within a few feet of him to witness his iconic Superman Punch and Spear. My major is engineering, but I'm most happy when I'm doing something artistic that doesn't put me under any pressure. Watching them wrestle and discuss their matches is always fun for me. And I've finally discovered a career that gives me fun since it allows me to with my dream heroes lifestyle. So, Welcome! I'd love to hear from you on LinkedIn and Facebook.
