Scot Pollard to undergo successful heart transplant surgery
It has been reported that NBA veteran and the 2008 NBA champion Scot Pollard has finally found a suitable heart donor. He will soon be undergoing a heart transplant surgery that will set him free from his life-threatening disease. The good news was announced by Scot’s wife on Instagram. She let all of Scot’s fans and supporters know about the great news and thanked them for their continuous support.
“Scot wanted me to let everyone know that the pre-heart transplant hair is gone because… it’s gone time!! After an emotional ride, and a few offers of some hearts that got our hopes up and down, they have finally found The One!! They just took him back for surgery. Please keep the prayers coming for Scot, the surgeons, the donor, and his family who lost their loved one. This donor gave the most amazing gift of life and we are forever grateful,” wrote Scot Pollard’s wife Dawn Michelle Pollard. She also sincerely thanked the late donor and his family.
How was Scot Pollard’s heart damaged?
Scot Pollard was a great player in his playing years, such that he had pushed his body to extreme limits in his days as a professional baller in the NBA.
However, like many athletes, the over-exertion of his body was not the cause of his heart disease. Instead, it was a genetic condition that had been with him all his life.
Scot was aware of the condition as the same disease had killed his father when he was just sixteen years old. The genetic condition did not show itself for many years until in 2021 Scot caught a virus that triggered it.
Since then, he has been in and out of intensive care units and has been searching for a suitable heart donor. His big 6-feet-11 build, which once gave him an advantage on court, became a drawback in this situation. It was hard to find a big heart suitable for his body. However, the search has now ended, and the pre-surgery procedure also went well.
