Why did WWE star Montez Ford’s UFC dream come to an end?

Montez Ford, also known as Kenneth Crawford, has been a member of WWE since September 26, 2015. After two years, the wrestler joined forces with Angelo Dawkins to form the team of the Street Profits.

Ford’s superior athleticism initially motivated him to pursue a career in UFC, the premier mixed martial arts promotion in the world. However, he later decided to abandon his dream for the sport. After many years, the former WWE RAW Tag Team Champion revealed that his wife, Bianca Belair, was the reason his dream came to an end.

Montez Ford explains why his UFC dream shut down

Montez Ford has been in the wrestling industry for quite a while and as a competitive sport, Ford has performed way above average wrestlers, both as an athlete and an entertainment performer. Kenneth Crawford aka Montez Ford, is a ‘Light Heavyweight’ class wrestler, which is perfect to becoming a UFC fighter.

Montez during an interview with TNT Sports revealed his desire to perform one day as a UFC fighter. He said that he would have loved to join the sport but his wife shut down his dream quickly as it was a dangerous sport.

In the interview, Ford said, “100 percent. Now I do get nervous about messing up this pretty face. I do look better in person, I know the camera is a little different. But I will say I’ve always been a fan of it, always trained for it. It is something I was talking about in the last two years, about actually going over and having a match.”

He went on to praise other wrestlers who have been in UFC before saying, “Seeing CM Punk, Brock Lesnar, and even Bobby Lashley, the guy I’m with now, doing different promotions, doing those fighting promotions… It’s something I had an interest in but it got shut down quickly by… ahem [gestures to Belair]”

Although fans were disheartened by the news, some still supported Bianca Belair in stopping her husband from joining the UFC. Unlike WWE, UFC does not provide a scripted environment, and most fight results are determined by an athlete’s capability rather than a scripted narrative. Belair’s refusal for Ford to join the UFC came as a caring wife’s decision to prevent her husband from potentially hurting himself.

Montez Ford and Bianca Belair attended UFC 298

Montez Ford and Bianca Belair are one of the most famous power couples in WWE in recent times. The pair has their own reality show on Hulu called ‘Love and WWE’, which is based on their day-to-day activities. Montez even showed his wife’s tattoo before the show premiered.

Recently Montez and Bianca were in attendance at the UFC 298, taking place in Anaheim, California. The husband-wife duo were seen in matching clothes in light color Gucci outfits. As TKO Group owns both WWE & UFC, it came as no surprise that the WWE power couple made an appearance at the event.

As the WWE Elimination Chamber is just a few days away, fans are hoping to see more of the Ford and Belair at the Optus Stadium, in Perth, Australia. Bianca will be seen in the women’s Elimination Chamber match and Montez will be with his partner, Angelo Dawkins, and ‘The Almighty’ Bobby Lashley.
