There are consequences for every action, and Emirhan Delibas must have learned that the hard way. Delibas is a young Turkish footballer who is just getting a taste of first-team action with his boyhood club, Besiktas, where he’s spent most of his career, bar a short loan spell at another Turkish club, Goztepe, in the 2022–23 season.
Having made his first-team debut for Besiktas last season after several consistent performances for the club’s under-19s in the Turkish youth league, Emirhan Delibas is now facing an uncertain future after his recent unfortunate incident with the club of his dreams.
Who is Emirhan Delibas?
Emirhan Delibas is one of the most exciting talents in Turkish football. The 2003-born forward is known for his trickery and fast pace, earning him widespread attention in 2022 after a video of him doing some impressive skills on YouTube went viral, catching the attention of Arda Turan, one of the best Turkish players ever.
Delibas broke through the youth team of Besiktas, where he made a name for himself as one of the biggest prospects in Turkish football. He starred regularly in the U19 Super Lig, where he scored 19 goals and contributed seven assists in 47 appearances. However, despite his impressive numbers, his poor disciplinary record was always a major concern.
As a forward, Emirhan Delibas received 20 yellow cards in those 47 appearances, more than most defenders in the youth league at the time. He made his first-team debut just last year in the UEFA Conference League when Besiktas faced Swiss side Lugano in the competition.
He followed this up with his first league appearance for Besiktas last month against Kasimpasa to launch his career in the first team, which has sadly ended with Besiktas.
Why did exactly Besiktas terminate Emirhan?
Sadly for Emirhan Delibas, his contract with Besiktas was terminated yesterday following the club’s understanding of the player’s profile on a dating app, where he seemed to have lied about his age. It was explicitly stated on his profile that he was 24, which contradicted his real age of 21.
Delibas himself quickly took to Instagram to claim the viral profile on the dating app Bumble wasn’t his. “I reject the slanders made by fake accounts and would like to state that my loyalty to my team cannot be questioned. Besiktas is a responsibility for me. Your love has been my greatest motivation,” the 21-year-old claimed.
Sadly, this didn’t stop the club from releasing a statement stating they had mutually terminated his contract with them. “We have parted ways with professional football player Emirhan Delibas by mutual agreement. We wish him success in his future career,” the club said.
