Kevin Durant has been around the NBA long enough to identify a diamond when he sees one. During the NBA All-Star weekend, he not only played alongside the up-and-coming jewels of the league but also lavished praise on a few.
Keeping Durant’s hooping acumen is not a matter of debate after being one of the faces of the league for well over a decade. But who are the players he thinks can be the next poster boys of the NBA?
Kevin Durant lauds Victor Wembanyama & Anthony Edwards
Kevin Durant himself has become a fan of a player that he names as his favorite, along with another player who has a bright future in the NBA. While talking to the co-founder of Boardroom, Rich Kleiman Kevin, Durant revealed exactly what he thinks about the duo.
When he was asked who would be the face of the NBA in the next 10 years, the 2-time NBA Champion named the two talents, San Antonio Spurs Victor Wembanyama and Timberwolves guard Anthony Edwards. He called the Timberwolves “Ant-Man,” a “team builder” whose personality is such that he can help build a strong team around him apart from his immense talent.
Talking about Spurs rookie Victor, KD earlier said, “That type of talent and skill just puts a smile on your face if you play basketball.” He also admitted that he became a fan of the 7’4″ Spurs guard once after he heard Wemby say that he wants to imbibe the qualities of not one or two but all the star players; “I heard a comment he said; somebody compared him to a few players in the league and he was like ‘I think I’d do myself a disservice if I compared myself to one or two players. I’m going to take from everybody.’ That’s such a profound statement and made me a big fan of his”.
He also mentioned that there are other talented basketball players who are influencing the new generation, setting the bar higher, can continue to make the sport competitive and enjoyable, and will be able to carry the league forward.
Kevin Durant aims to return to Supersonics after retirement
Kevin Durant started his basketball journey in the NBA with the Seattle Supersonics when he was drafted in 2007 as the second pick. In the following year, the Supersonics left Seattle, moved to Oklahoma City and changed their name to the Oklahoma City Thunder. KD recently revealed his desire to return to the Supersonics when they return.
The 35-year-old believes that Seattle is a basketball city, and there are so many basketball enthusiasts in the city for whom he wants the NBA back in the city. Earlier, in an interview with ESPN in 2008, he said, “It’s a basketball city. It’s a sports town. … They have a good representation of basketball in the NBA from Seattle-born players, Washington state-born players. And I feel like that whole brand deserves an NBA team. Just like the Golden State Warriors deserve a team or the Los Angeles Lakers deserve a team, Seattle is that same way. [A team] has that same type of impact in the community. So [we have] a lot of time in life before this whole thing is over, and I’m sure we’ll see a team before it’s time.”
In the boardroom interview, when he was asked whether he would want to be a part of the Seattle team if it was possible for him, he answered quickly, saying, “without a doubt.” He also mentioned that going back to Seattle and playing there after retirement is his dream.
