In November of last year, WWE superstar Randy Orton made his comeback to the WWE Universe at the Survivor Series WarGames 2023 Premium Live Event and since then, he has re-established himself as one of the top WWE superstars by performing regularly on live shows.
In the meantime, earlier reports suggested the idea of WWE changing The Viper’s iconic theme song, and now Orton has confirmed that the reports are true, as he also doesn’t enjoy that theme as much as fans think.
Randy Orton opens up on hating his theme music
It was reported earlier that WWE was considering changing Randy Orton’s entrance music. The idea was to bring back his old theme song to reintroduce him and then introduce new music later on. However, WWE ultimately decided to stick with “Voices” by Rev Theory.
In a recent interview with Graham “GSM” Matthews, Randy Orton talked about the report and said that he is grateful for Rev Theory and appreciates their music. Although many people love his current entrance song, he doesn’t love it as much.
Orton mentioned that he gets affected by certain entrance themes of WWE wrestlers, including New Day, AJ Styles, Samoa Joe, and Roman Reigns. He confirmed the reports to be true and added that he was actively involved in the process with WWE.
“Rev Theory is great. My song is great. A lot of people enjoy it. I have never loved, loved, loved it. You see me bouncing my head to New Day’s music or AJ Styles coming to the ring with his music. I’m singing along. Samoa Joe, when he was with us. The instrumentals. Roman, Judgment Day. Some music gets me going. The kind of music I listen to in the gym, the kind of music that pumps me up, doesn’t fit Randy Orton’s character. There is some truth to what you read. I was just as much behind it as WWE,” said Randy Orton.
Over the summer, they worked on a new song. However, the song continued to change based on feedback from WWE executives, causing uncertainty about the final version. Eventually, at Survivor Series, they decided to stick with “Voices” due to its strong connection with the fans. Randy Orton was hesitant to make any drastic changes, as consistency has been a crucial part of his successful career. He believed that if something is not broken, there is no need to fix it.
”The decision in the 11th hour was that ‘Voices’ is a song that people have learned to love, and goddamnit, even though it doesn’t necessarily get my blood pumping, it gets all those fans pumping, and they know when they hear the first few notes, they know who is walking down to the ring and how that makes them feel. To change all of that, I was going to change my gear.”
“I was going to try and make all these changes. I bought a pair of f*ckpads. ‘Let me try and change my look.’ In the 11th hour, it was like, ‘What am I doing? I’m going to look like some old guy who changed his clothes,” Randy Orton added.
Evolution of Randy Orton themes over the years
Randy Orton is known for his exceptional in-ring prowess and his signature move, the RKO. Unfortunately, Orton was away from WWE due to an injury, leaving his fans eagerly awaiting his return. Besides his exceptional wrestling skills, Orton’s walkout songs have also been a significant aspect of his career.
Throughout his time in WWE, he has used multiple songs to set the stage and add an extra layer of excitement to his performances. Here is a list of songs that Orton has used:
- Line in the Sand: It is an electrifying tune by Motorhead that has played a significant role in Randy Orton’s career. Orton first embraced the powerful chords of the song from 2002–2003 and later used it from 2011–2012 and again from 2012–2014. The song returned triumphantly from 2014 to 2017 and once more from 2019 to 2022, becoming an anthem of Orton’s legacy.
- Burn in My Light: It is a memorable song by Mercy Drive that played a significant role in Orton’s career journey. It was his entrance song from 2004 to 2006 and perfectly matched his calculated and sinister persona as the Viper. The song’s intense rhythm added to his intimidating presence during that time.
- Voices: It was created by Rev Theory and was one of Randy Orton’s most iconic walkout songs from 2007 to 2010. Its haunting lyrics reflected the complex duality of Orton’s character, perfectly capturing the essence of his enigmatic presence in the arena.
- I Hear Voices: A variation of Rev Theory’s “I Hear Voices” accompanied Orton’s entrances from 2011 to 2012, evolving his persona while retaining his captivating aura.
- Evolution: The Evolution faction, which consisted of Ric Flair, Triple H, Batista, and Randy Orton, is widely recognized for its significant impact on WWE history. The group’s theme song, “Evolution,” performed by Motorhead, embodied their shared identity and goals.
Orton’s choice of walkout music has progressed with his career, as he brings a unique essence to each track, leaving fans wondering what his next musical direction will be.
