Former NFL icon claims people need to stop disrespecting Cam Newton following TSP Crew’s sneak attack

Amidst the current struggles of the Carolina Panthers, notably with the presence of Bryce Young, it’s worth reflecting on the golden era the team experienced under the guidance of Cam Newton. The first overall pick in the 2011 NFL Draft, Newton dedicated nearly a decade to the Panthers, instilling a winning culture for the team.

While his NFL career ended abruptly, recently one of his off-field actions brought his name into the spotlight. The incident caught the attention of former NFL quarterback Robert Griffin III, who took to social media to express his dismay.

Robert Griffin III wants Cam Newton disrespect to stop

Cam Newton recently engaged in a brawl during a 7-on-7 youth football camp on a Sunday. A video circulated online, showcasing Newton apparently being attacked by multiple individuals at his 7v7 event in Atlanta. Sharing the video of the brawl, Griffin posted on X, pointing out the need to halt any disrespect directed at Cam Newton.

“In all seriousness, I HATE seeing this. Cam Newton nor anyone should ever be disrespected in this way. How can we rise, do better for our communities and change the narrative when we are attacking each other like this?” he wrote.

Griffin also conveyed a strong message about fostering unity within communities, highlighting the importance of events like a 7-on-7 tournament meant to bring people together in a spirit of fun and competition.

“Turning a 7 on 7 tournament into a brawl and people leave with the wrong impression of an event meant to bring people together for fun and competition. We have to be better than this. We are better than this.”

Newton was the quarterback of the Panthers for nine out of his 10 years in the NFL, boasting an impressive career highlighted by league MVP honors and a Super Bowl appearance following the 2015 season.

Following his tenure with the Panthers, the 34-year-old spent a season with the New England Patriots in 2020. However, his time with the Patriots was short-lived, and he ultimately returned to the Panthers for the 2021 season, appearing in eight games.

Despite his absence from the field in the recent season, Newton, who recently shared his take on David Tepper’s fine, has not ruled out the possibility of making a comeback. In a recent statement, he expressed his willingness to consider returning to the NFL, particularly if the Atlanta Falcons were interested in signing him.
