Jimmy Butler among five NBA players suspended for Heat-Pelicans fight
Jimmy Butler was among the five players who were announced to be suspended after a fight broke out between the players of the Miami Heat and the New Orleans Pelicans. The Pelicans were unable to contain the Butler-led Miami Heat last Friday as they were dominating the game. This caused a tense atmosphere to appear on the court and when Zion Williamson, whose future is uncertain at the Pelicans, was fouled a fight broke out. The players got into heated arguments with each other and Jimmy Butler and Naji Marshall got into a fight.
Butler shoved Naji aside and in response, he got a hold of Jimmy’s neck, which instantly infuriated the Heat star. Other players and the NBA staff on the scene got involved to separate the two ballers, and later on, the official ejected both of them. The game resumed and soon after the brawl between Jimmy and Naji, Thomas Bryant and Jose Alvarado got into a fight and the previous scenario repeated itself.
They were also ejected from the game and the Miami Heat secured the win. Jimmy Butler, Nikola Jovic, and Naji Marshall got suspended for one game, while Thomas Bryant and Jose Alvarado got suspended for three games.
Jimmy Butler’s response to his one-day NBA suspension
Jimmy Butler had a strange reaction to the announcement of his being suspended for one game. He shared a bunch of stories on his official Instagram account, comparing his suspension to jail time. There were no direct comparisons but Butler shared the photos of the song Locked Up by Akon, Jail by Kanye West, and Life by K-Ci & JoJo. The fans have deciphered these cryptic stories to be related to his recent suspension.
Butler was also called to be tougher than LeBron James and he shared his opinion on the recent NBA decision to suspend him and his teammates for the altercation. “I want to go out there and compete with my guys as does Niko (Nikola Jovic) as does TB (Thomas Bryant). I think we do have enough right now to get it done, it might be a little more difficult but I know that these guys can do it. They have shown that they can do it all year round… We are expected to go out there and win and we are gonna do that,” said Butler.
He and the two other Heat players won’t be available to play in the Miami Heat vs Sacramento Kings game because of the suspension.
