After his victory at UFC 298, Ilia Topuria has been celebrating his win while traveling around. During his travels, he had an interaction with the Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez. Shortly afterward, reports began circulating that the UFC champion had been granted citizenship, allowing him to live freely in Spain.

Recently, Ashton Martin also gifted a $248,086 super car to UFC champion Ilia Topuria. Now, after living in Spain for more than a decade, its PM has decided to gift something to him as well. Even the fans are enjoying the achievements the German-born fighter has worked for.

Ilia Topuria meets the Spanish PM to receive citizenship

At UFC 298, Ilia Topuria caused a major upset in the MMA world by defeating Alexander Volkanovski via knockout for the UFC featherweight championship title. Following his victory, he attended the Real Madrid vs. Sevilla game at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium. Within two weeks of his win, Topuria met with the Prime Minister of Spain, Pedro Sánchez.

During their meeting on Tuesday, Topuria presented Sanchez with his UFC belt. The Spanish Prime Minister celebrated the victory, congratulated the champion, and promised to grant Spanish citizenship to Topuria, who was born in Germany.

The Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez wrote to Ilia Topuria, “Your effort, dedication, perseverance have made you achieve your dream. The second one will soon become a reality. Your love for Spain will be reflected on your Spanish National identity document [which is awarded to Spanish citizens].”

At the age of 15, Ilia Topuria came to Spain with his parents from Germany. There he started training to pursue a career in MMA. With a 15-0 undefeated streak, he is the only current fighter in the UFC who is a champion and hasn’t faced any losses after Jon Jones.
