Fans were shocked after the former three-time WWE Champion Mick Foley revealed his plan to compete in one last deathmatch before calling it quits. The unexpected reason behind this decision came to light as Foley shared that a deathmatch would pump him up and potentially contribute to leading a healthy lifestyle.
During an interview with Casey Hopkins, he said, “One day, when I was really struggling, I realized that what used to be the best motivation for me was another match. I saw my weight really starting to get away from me, I thought, maybe I need that same kind of motivation, and along the way, I can appreciate the lifestyle changes, eating differences, the exercise. There is no reason for somebody at my age and weight, to not be exercising for three straight years. It’s embarrassing.”

The 58-year-old wrestling icon continued, expressing his embarrassment about his weight. Mick added that he needs a wheelchair in airports and can’t fit into regular airplane seats due to being overweight.
Mick explained it as a “paradox,” stating that if he were to compete in a deathmatch, he would likely lose some weight. He emphasized his dislike for being on the sideline, mentioning that all he needs are some “barbed wire and thumbtacks,” which he considers as the “tools of life for dad.”

Mick Foley joined the Stamford-based company on June 24, 1983, and he has won a total of 17 championships in WWE. Under the tutelage of former WWE chairman Vince McMahon, he developed three different gimmicks, Dude Love, Cactus Jack, and Mankind. Fans loved the different faces of Foley and this later went on to become his career highlight.
Mick Foley, known for one of the greatest storylines with The Undertaker in the ’90s, decided to part ways with the company in 2008. After a few brief appearances, Mick announced his last match in WWE, a Royal Rumble match in 2012. Michael, aka Mick Foley, entered the match as the 7th participant and lasted for 6 minutes and 34 seconds before being eliminated by ‘The American Nightmare’ Cody Rhodes.
Mick Foley is one of the greatest generational superstars and has contributed a lot to the wrestling industry. Some of his matches are still regarded as the best in The Attitude Era.
