Barcelona are a club that have always been innovative in every aspect, and they have shown that in a unique method as well. The club had signed a record partnership with music streaming giant Spotify, and part of their deal included that for every El Clasico fixture, the Catalans must promote one of their artists on their shirt.
Many Spotify artists, such as the Rolling Stones, Rosalia, and Drake, have already featured the shirt as a logo. And now, ahead of the upcoming El Clasico game, another artist will also be featured on their shirt.
Barcelona to feature pop star on El Clasico jersey
Barcelona will feature Latin pop sensation Karol G when they face Real Madrid in the El Clasico fixture on April 21. The news was shared after the official kick off time for the game was revealed by La Liga authorities.
Real Madrid are leading La Liga with an 8 point lead over Barcelona, and thus it will be an important matchup between the two heavyweight Spanish giants. All of their games are considered the best in world soccer and are followed by almost every soccer fan in the world. Thus, due to the attention the game receives, Spotify asks Barcelona to feature their famous artists on their shirts, and this time it will be Karol G.
The Colombian music artist is one of the biggest pop stars in the world, with record album sales. She will be the first Latino artist to appear on the famous Catalan shirt, though the logo or artwork that will appear on the shirt is yet to be revealed.
Karol G is considered one of the most influential urban pop artists and has won a Grammy Award, five Latin Grammy Awards and four Billboard Music Awards.
Barcelona featured Rolling Stone on El Clasico jersey previously
Barcelona previously also used other artists on their shirts, such as Catalan artist Rosalia and famous rapper Drake. Their most high profile artist was this season in the previous La Liga fixture, and it was the famous rock band, ‘The Rolling Stones band’.
The famous tongue and lip logo of the band was used instead of the Spotify logo for the game against Real Madrid. So far, they were the most high profile music artists to be featured by the club on their shirts.
They were the first band to be featured on the five-time UCL winner’s shirt, and the first rock artists as well. The band had just released their new album, ‘Hackney Diamonds’, and this was to promote them.
Unfortunately, Barcelona had lost the game 2-1, despite Ilkay Gundogan scoring early. Jude Bellingham had scored a brilliant brace to secure the win for Madrid. For now, Barcelona will be focusing on their next game against Napoli in the UCL Round of 16 stage on Wednesday night.
