‘We need to trust more’: Mauricio Pochettino pleads for support after Chelsea confirms second Wembley visit in 9 months

Chelsea have managed to do it once again as the club confirms their place in the FA Cup semifinals. The Blues have largely struggled this season, and yet they continue to make surprises. They had even managed to become the runners up of the Carabao Cup, which they lost to winners Liverpool.

However, fans are still not satisfied as they believe that they can do much more. The club has seen massive transfer intakes but there has been no sustainable progress since then. But it seems they have some hope at last.

Mauricio Pochettino wants more trust in his Chelsea team

Chelsea have largely struggled this season, and manager Mauricio Pochettino has been on the short end of the stick. He has been criticized for not being able to turn things around, but he has now asked fans for more trust in his team.

Pochettino asked his team’s supporters to believe in him and give them more trust, “People should understand that we are building new Chelsea. Now look, 9 months here… we go to Wembley two times in two different competitions. We need to enjoy and we need to trust more.”

Chelsea has not seen big improvements since Pochettino arrived at the start of the season. They are only 11th in the Premier League with no prospect of playing European competitions next season. This is despite the squad being reinforced with many expensive players.

However, they have managed to go to Wembley twice now this season. They went to the Carabao Cup finals but lost to Liverpool after fighting very hard till extra time. And now they are in the FA Cup semifinals where they will face Manchester City at Wembley.

Chelsea’s previous record in FA Cup

Chelsea have been quite successful in the FA Cup tournament, as they have won it 8 times. But their last FA Cup triumph was 6 years ago in 2018. The next year saw them get knocked out in the 5th round.

Chelsea managed to return to the FA Cup final in 2020, but they lost 2-1 to winners Arsenal. The next year again saw the Blues return to a final at Wembley, but again they lost the trophy to Leicester City.

As if their luck was bad enough, they lost the trophy the next year in 2022 as well, this time to Liverpool on penalties. Unfortunately, they were knocked out early last year in the 3rd round itself against Manchester City.

It seems the London club is quite unlucky in the competition to have lost three FA Cup finals in a row. They have appeared in 5 of the last 7 finals, out of which they lost 4 of those finals. They have a tough test ahead as they will face treble champions Manchester City in the semifinals.

For now, Chelsea will focus on their next game against Burnley in the Premier League on March 30 after the international break is over.
