The US men’s basketball team is getting ready for the 2024 Paris Olympics in France. They have already selected 11 players, with just one spot left. This team is stacked with All-Star veterans and rising stars.
NBA legends LeBron James, Stephen Curry, and Kevin Durant will be leading the charge, but that’s not all. This team is stacked with top talent like Jayson Tatum, Joel Embiid, and Devin Booker, all hungry to bring home the gold. ESPN NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski’s shared the possible roster heading into the Olympics.
LeBron James and Stephen Curry are legendary names in the NBA, but they haven’t played for Team USA in a while. LeBron last played for the national team in 2012, and Steph has never gotten the chance to compete at the Olympics.
On the other hand, Kevin Durant is all set to be a Team USA legend. This summer, he will be aiming for his fourth Olympic gold medal. That would be an incredible feat, and it would solidify his place as the top scorer in Team USA history, a title he already holds. Now all eyes are on that one remaining spot on the roster.
Kawhi Leonard favorite for 2024 Paris Olympics final roster spot
The race is heating up for the final spot on the stacked USA men’s Olympic basketball team. While Kawhi Leonard seems like the natural choice, his recent knee issues pose a red flag.
Sam Quinn of CBS Sports weighed in on the possibilities of watching Leonard accompany Team USA in Paris. “I think that spot belongs to Kawhi Leonard if he’s healthy enough to play, but, as always this time of year, that is a major mystery,” he wrote.
Sources close to The Athletic also named Paul George, Paolo Banchero, Mikal Bridges, and Jalen Brunson as possible candidates for the last spot on the roster. George is a familiar face with Team USA experience, but his injury history is a concern. Banchero, the rookie sensation, brings youthful energy and a high ceiling, while Bridges, a defensive stalwart, could lock down opposing scorers. And Brunson, a clutch playoff performer, would add scoring punch to the already star-stacked attack of Team USA.
The decision is a tough one. Remains to be seen who makes the cut.
