Indian wrestling icon Jinder Mahal was among the names that WWE released on Friday night’s SmackDown. Many were taken aback by his abrupt exit after his meteoric ascent this year when he competed for the WWE World Heavyweight Title on RAW. Recent reports indicate that his release elicited a comedic response backstage by referring to AEW CEO Tony Khan.
A source of PWInsider claims that Tony Khan and Jinder Mahal might be feuding on AEW Dynamite this summer and that this is a running joke among WWE employees. This echoes a previous event in which Khan shared a tweet to defend his AEW booking where he trolled Jinder Mahal’s one-year losing streak.
Jinder Mahal shot back on Twitter with a clever inquiry about FTW Champion Hook’s identity while also promoting WWE’s Monday Night Raw. Now, insiders at PWInsider Elite are making fun of the idea that Mahal might fight Tony Khan on AEW’s main show since the Modern Day Maharaja has been released from the Stamford-based promotion.
Putting aside the jokes, it’s clear that Jinder Mahal is having a hard time adjusting to his new surroundings after his release. Thus, his abrupt exit has really hurt many WWE performers, including his former tag-team partner.
Drew McIntyre provides comfort to Jinder Mahal in his tough time
In the middle of WWE’s recent stream of releases, Jinder Mahal’s exit was a complete surprise. Mahal used to be a major player on the team, but recently his career went in a bad direction, putting him in the middle of the card scene. Still, in the wake of his sudden exit, he found solace in the support of his peers.
Among those rallying behind him is his former 3MB partner, Drew McIntyre. The Scottish Warrior encouraged Mahal to rise again in a Twitter post by noting, “We showed them once. Now show them again, brother.” Despite McIntyre’s recent rise, they still have a strong bond that comes from working together to be the best wrestlers available.
