After leading the Kansas City Chiefs to back-to-back Super Bowl wins, head coach Andy Reid has solidified his position as one of the most successful coaches in NFL history. The Chiefs have renewed his contract, ending months of intense and public uncertainty and guaranteeing his leadership for the foreseeable future.
CBS Sports NFL Insider Jonathan Jones confirmed that the deal will keep him in Kansas City until the 2029 season.
Alongside Reid, President Mark Donovan and General Manager Brett Veach have also had their contracts extended. Chiefs owner Clark Hunt expressed his excitement about the extensions, stating the historic success achieved by Reid, Donovan, and Veach during their tenure with the team.
“Mark, Brett and Andy have achieved historic success together, and we are thrilled that they will continue in their roles for many years to come,” Hunt said in a statement.
With the 66-year-old head coach at the helm, the Chiefs have enjoyed remarkable success since 2017, boasting an impressive record of 100 wins and 34 losses, including postseason games.
How many Super Bowls has Andy Reid won with the Chiefs?
Since Andy Reid’s arrival in Kansas City in 2013, he has been instrumental in transforming the Chiefs into a football powerhouse. It wasn’t an immediate success, but once Reid drafted Patrick Mahomes, the team’s fortunes changed dramatically, leading to three Super Bowl victories under his guidance.
After a long wait, Reid finally clinched his first Super Bowl title in 2019, when the Chiefs triumphed over the San Francisco 49ers. The victory was a historic moment for the franchise, marking their first championship win since 1969.
The storied head coach’s success didn’t stop there. In the 2022 season, he led the Chiefs to yet another Super Bowl appearance, this time against the Philadelphia Eagles. The game was a thriller, with the Chiefs emerging victorious with a score of 38-35, securing Reid’s second Super Bowl win as head coach of the team.
The latest addition to his impressive coaching resume came in Super Bowl LVIII, where the Chiefs faced off against the 49ers once again. In a closely contested game that went into overtime, the Chiefs emerged triumphant with a final score of 25-22, securing their third Super Bowl title under Reid’s leadership.
With the feat, he joins the ranks of Bill Belichick and Chuck Noll as the only head coaches to clinch three Lombardi Trophy in a five-season span.
