Petr Yan and Marlon Vera were met with contrasting results at UFC 299 where the former won against Song Yadong and the latter lost the bantamweight title fight to Sean O’Malley. The duo has been at odds with each other ever since Vera called out Yan and they have trolled each other.
In a recent tweet on X, Yan responded to Vera’s accusations of ducking and urging to make the fight happen for the PPV at Madison Square Garden in November.

Currently ranked 3rd and 4th in the division respectively, Yan and Vera could put themselves in sight of a title shot if they fought. However, since the duo has fought and lost title fights, they would need favorable scenarios for a title shot to materialize.
Merab Dvalishvili is the number one contender in the division and will fight champion Sean O’Malley later this year. Moreover, the winner of the potential fight between 2nd-ranked Cory Sandhagen and 9th-ranked Umar Nurmagomedov will determine the next challenger, per SI.
Nevertheless, the Vera-Yan social media beef has added spice to the already stacked bantamweight division of the UFC.
Marlon Vera accused Petr Yan of ducking
Marlon Vera had an awful showing at UFC 299 where he was dominated by Sean O’Malley, en route to a unanimous decision victory. After the win, O’Malley called out Ilia Topuria, the featherweight champion who had called out Conor McGregor after he became champion at UFC 298.
On the other hand, Marlon Vera was on Cameron Hanes’ Keep Hammering Collective podcast where he called out Petr Yan and accused the former champion of ducking him numerous times.
“I wanna fight (in) November, Madison Square Garden, and I’d like to fight Petr Yan. The winner can sit right there waiting for the title shot,” said Vera on the podcast.
(Petr) declined (to fight me) before. We saw each other at my last fight, and he’s like ‘hey I want you next’, and I said ‘what you talking about, you declined twice,’” Vera added.
Petr Yan responded with a tweet in which he belittled Vera and vowed to fight him soon. Nevertheless, it remains to be seen whether the UFC would make the fight happen.
