The New York Jets are suffering from a prolonged Super Bowl drought since the 1968 season, and Aaron Rodgers was expected to put an end to their misfortune. From training camp to preseason games, the former Green Bay Packers icon signaled every possibility to secure the second Lombardi trophy for the team.
Heading to the Jets’ first regular season game, A-Rod entered the stadium, carrying a USA flag and earning a huge round of applause. Nevertheless, his debut in the Big Apple lasted just four snaps due to an unfortunate injury, and only further check-up will detail his future this season.
Jets QB Aaron Rodgers limps off the field with ankle injury vs. Bills
Aaron Rodgers threw his first pass away donning Gang Green’s jersey before throwing an incomplete on the next play. He was trying to avoid the Bills’ Leonard Floyd, but the defensive star wrapped up the signal-caller, causing A-Rod to hit the floor awkwardly at the MetLife Stadium turf. Rodgers stayed down before the team’s medical personnel rushed to him on the spot.
The four-time MVP was helped to the sideline and then carted to the Jets’ locker room. He was seen entering the X-ray facility with his left foot in a boot before being ruled out for the rest of the game. Fortunately, the franchise afterwards announced that the X-ray scan on his ankle came out negative.
The 10-time Pro Bowler injured the same leg during training camp and missed some sessions, with what was labeled a strained left calf muscle. After recovering from the injury, Rodgers had not missed any practices. The ex-Packers was replaced by his backup Zach Wilson just 3:45 into the game.
Jets QB expected MRI on Monday after suspected Achilles injury
Gang Green’s head coach Robert Saleh revealed that he doubted Aaron Rodgers had sustained an Achilles injury. If the veteran really incurs such an injury, he will have to be out of the field for a substantial period of time and may even have to miss the entire season. The Jets are now banking on an MRI scan to have a complete picture of the situation.
The 39-year-old dual-threat didn’t even get the chance to complete a pass in his debut for the New York Jets. Aaron Rodgers hasn’t missed any regular season games in the league over the past five seasons. It was only back in 2017, that he was limited to appearing in only seven games due to injury.
Following a blockbuster trade with Green Bay, the Jets fans were keeping high expectations for a possible Super Bowl campaign, albeit Aaron Rodgers’ injury has already given a huge blow to those dreams. The social media was full of heartbroken posts from fans who couldn’t believe that they would have to witness such unfortunate scenery on the first drive of the match.
