Rafael Nadal playfully weighs in on the soccer GOAT debate saying: “Lionel Messi is better but I am a Madrid fan”

Debating and deciding the greatest of all time in different fields of sport usually ignites a great amount of passion amongst the fans. In tennis, the question of which one of the Big Three members- Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer, or Novak Djokovic, is the GOAT is something that can start great conversations or fights.

Similarly, in the world of soccer, many fans across the globe often brawl over the question, Messi or Ronaldo, who is the soccer GOAT? Being a huge fan of soccer himself, here is what Spain’s Raging Bull, Rafael Nadal has to say regarding the matter.

Rafael Nadal offers his opinion on the soccer GOAT debate

‘The King of Clay’ is currently recovering from surgery and should be preparing soon to play in the 2024 season. In the meantime, some fans found him in Greece and were quick to approach him and get pictures with the legend. As Rafa was going to walk away, these fans took the opportunity to pose one of the most hotly debated questions- “Messi or Ronaldo?”

Rafa offers a short but technical response, “Messi is better but I’m a Madrid fan”.

Just a couple of days back, Lionel Messi delivered a sensational clutch goal in his Inter Miami debut, that too in the presence of some monumental figures such as Serena Williams, LeBron James, and even the Kardashians.

Several fans commented on how the GOAT of tennis recognized the GOAT of soccer. One fan even wrote: “This is why rafa is the goat he is always right”.

Rafael Nadal once played tennis with Cristiano Ronaldo

Rafa expressed his admiration for Messi while also not completely forgetting his favorite team player, Ronaldo. The Spaniard reinstated that he is a die-hard Madrid fan and saved some credibility for Ronaldo in the process.

This recent comment called for an epic throwback to arguably one of the best crossover advertisements. Over a decade ago, the two great athletes, Rafael Nadal, and Cristiano Ronaldo collaborated on a Nike ad.

With amicable spirit, Nadal and Ronaldo hit the ball around in their then-trending Nike apparel and sports gear. The two legends were seen taking on each other in a medley of tennis and soccer!
