Things are not going well at Manchester United, and Jadon Sancho is the latest player to hit the headlines. The 23-year-old has failed to impress since moving to Old Trafford from Borussia Dortmund in a mega-money deal, and the hopes of his improvement this season have hit a snag after the young Englishman faced an internal disciplinary issue.
Erik ten Hag has instilled a culture of respect at Old Trafford since joining at the last season, and Sancho is the latest player to witness the Dutchman’s wrath since Ten Hag’s high-profile fallout with Cristiano Ronaldo last season.
Why is Jadon Sancho training away from Man United?
The club released a statement yesterday, pointing out that Jadon Sancho would train away from the first team amidst a resolution of a squad disciplinary issue.
“Jadon Sancho will remain on a personal training programme away from the first team – pending resolution of a squad disciplinary issue,” the club said in a statement released on Thursday.
Manchester United can’t seem to catch a break from all the issues going on at the club. After dealing with the Mason Greenwood issue by sending him on a season-long loan to Getafe on the transfer deadline day, United have had to deal with Antony, Harry Maguire, and now Jadon Sancho. The former City academy player didn’t make the squad to face Arsenal in United’s last game before the international break, with Ten Hag citing low levels of training as the reason for his absence.
Sancho immediately took to social media to hit out at Ten Hag, claiming he’s been made a “scapegoat for a long time,” forcing the club to intervene. According to reports, Jadon Sancho held talks with the manager but refused to apologise, forcing the club to take disciplinary action against him.
What happened with Jadon Sancho and Erik ten Hag?
Another public fallout is imminent at Manchester United, with Jadon Sancho right in the middle of it. The youngster hit out at Ten Hag after being left out of the squad due to poor training levels, saying he was tired of being made the scapegoat. This led to a major showdown between the two, resulting in Sancho refusing to apologise to the manager.
“Please don’t believe everything you read! I will not allow people to say things that are completely untrue. I have conducted myself very well in training this week,” Sancho wrote in a now-deleted statement posted on Twitter after Erik ten Hag blamed his absence from the squad on poor performance in training.
With Sancho currently out, United have a slim option up front, with Rashford, Pellistri, and Garnacho the only available wingers.
