Iguodala began by agreeing with JJ Redick’s observation that Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green had a unique level of freedom that Poole also desired.
Iguodala made a statement saying, “It was tough for Jordan Poole because he wanted the same freedom. While he doesn’t have four rings like them, he did win us a game in the Finals, Game 5. So, he returned with the mindset that he had shown his ability, and he deserved more freedom. He was the second-highest scorer on the team, so he questioned why he shouldn’t have a bigger role. These emotions are natural; he’s a real person. He wanted to do what he does best and felt he had made sacrifices.”
However, Iguodala also noted that Poole sometimes appeared to intentionally hold back, especially on defense, as a form of rebellion due to his dissatisfaction with the situation. It was a frank and candid discussion between Iguodala and Redick, with Iguodala emphasizing his deep affection for Poole and even saying that he ‘loves Poole to death.’ This shocking revelation might explain why the Warriors traded Poole to the Washington Wizards.
Consequences of the Draymond Green incident for Poole’s downfall
