Manchester City superstar Rodri has fallen from the heights of success to making a stupid mistake that could haunt his team. He received a red card in yesterday’s game against Nottingham Forest. The team did win the game 2-0, thanks to goals from Phil Foden and Erling Haaland.
It was after the second half started that Rodri and Forrest player Morgan Gibbs-White clashed near the corner flag. Rodri had grabbed Morgan by the throat, and after a VAR check, he was sent off. The incident has drawn parallels to another former incident, and a football analyst’s comments have also gone viral.
Gabby Agbonlahor sings different tune after Rodri’s red card incident
The incident has seen football analyst Gabby Agbonlahor make a certain biased comment. While he acknowledged that Rodri was wrong, he deemed that Morgan himself was acting too much. He said, “Was it enough for Gibbs-White to go down? He deserves to be on WWE for that acting.”
However, his different response to another similar incident has also gone viral. Last season, Manchester United midfielder Casemiro was also sent off in a game against Crystal Palace for a similar action as Rodri.
At the time, Gabby had a different comment about Casemiro’s actions. He condemned the Brazilian for his brutal reaction at the time and said, “Casemiro should be arrested and disciplined.”
Even though both incidents were similar, Gabby had different opinions. This hypocritical side led many fans to slam him on social media.
One fan wrote, “You wanted Casemiro in prison for a hell of alot less last year you hypocrite.” While another said, “You said last year that Casemiro deserves the red card. Today, Gibbs-White deserves to be on WWE for acting. Manchester City will not give you any job.”
Rodri’s red card aftermath: disciplinary actions
The red card for Rodri would be hugely detrimental to Manchester City, considering they are already missing many players due to injury. Plus, Rodri has been their backbone for the last couple of years, becoming one of the best players in the world.
The red card would earn him a three-match ban, as is customary for violent conduct on the pitch. This could see City have to lineup without Rodri against Newcastle United, Wolverhampton Wolves, and Arsenal. These games are important as the results could influence the title race early on. Newcastle and Arsenal are also two teams that are very good.
Pep Guardiola was indeed angry with the player, with no doubt his absence causing the manager to plan his next games carefully. City’s next game will be against Newcastle in the 3rd round of the EFL Cup this Thursday.
