After the termination of more than 100 employees with TKO Group Holdings’ formation, WWE has also released some talents. Wrestlers like Rick Boogs, Mustafa Ali, Dolph Ziggler, Dana Brooke, and Shelton Benjamin were released. The main reason behind this termination was to reduce the cost of the company and to bolster profit.
However, Rick Boogs has a quite different opinion regarding his reason for termination from the company, as he blames several other factors rather than the reason provided by the WWE.
Rick Boogs blames backstage politics following WWE release
Since debuting in WWE in 2017, Rick Boogs has been a very promising supporting character for some big wrestlers. Fans are very fond of his guitar-playing segments. One of his guitar highlights include the one played during Shinsuke Nakamura’s entrance. However, despite such a promising gimmick the wrestler had to say goodbye to the WWE Universe, as he was released by the company in the recent talent layoffs.
After having his contract terminated, Rick uploaded a video on his YouTube channel in which he claimed that he lost his job in WWE due to backstage politics.
“My job in WWE being terminated due to a backstage political power play — at least that’s my opinion of it. But now is not the time to talk about that. I will get into detail about that when the time is right.”, Boogs told on the video.
Fans swarmed into the comment section of that video and asked him several questions to which Rick Boogs replied with more relevant details in regard to his claims.
Boogs reveals Vince McMahon support
A few days after getting terminated from WWE, Rick Boogs uploaded a video on his YouTube channel and blamed backstage politics for this release. Many fans commented on that video and asked him several questions. The former WWE star replied to some of them.
One reply that drew everyone’s attention was, “I can say with 100% certainty, that the removal of Vince [McMahon] killed my career.”
In a sense, Rick was always very fond of Vince McMahon for giving him an interesting role that the fans loved even if it was for a short period as he suffered a serious knee injury in the biggest match of his life alongside Shinsuke Nakamura in April 2022 at WrestleMania 38.
After that injury, he was not seen on the roster until this year’s January. However, things had changed already with such a long gap as he had very few appearances on the shows. Rick thought even at that time he could have revived his career only if Vince was in charge.
