What happened to Jimmy Garoppolo? Evaluating the Raiders QB’s medical situation

The 2023 NFL season has already been a scary incubus for the starting quarterbacks. From Aaron Rodgers to Joe Burrow, the signal-callers, who have been projected to be the protagonist of their respective team’s potential Super Bowl run, are having difficulties due to injuries, and the Las Vegas Raiders star Jimmy Garoppolo has now enlisted himself in the list of hapless veterans.

The Raiders broke up with their nine-year starter Derek Carr to include Jimmy in their roster, albeit the injury plagued QB has once again become a major headache following his latest injury against the Steelers.

Jimmy Garoppolo injury update

During the Raiders Sunday Night Football against the Steelers, Garoppolo sustained injuries when he was trying to avoid a sack in the first half of the match. He had trouble walking off the field and limped off before finding himself on the sideline. Meanwhile, DeMarvin Leal also fell on the upper body of the dual-threat, and he bent backward.

The 31-year-old headed to the locker room before the end of the second half, albeit he returned to the field at the start of the third quarter. During the intermission, the team’s coach Josh McDaniels said the vet was ready to go.

However, injury is not something new for the signal-caller as he injured his left foot while playing for the San Francisco 49ers last season, and required surgery afterward. In August, he also left the training camp in Las Vegas after 45 minutes of practice when coaches monitored his broken foot.

As of now, the Raiders have not provided any update about the potential of Garoppolo missing any upcoming matches. If he misses any games, Brian Hoyer will take over his spot, with Aidan O’Connell listed behind him on the depth chart.

Raiders go down to Steelers

Pittsburgh managed to secure the first win of them this season after defeating the Las Vegas Raiders in their week 3 campaign at Allegiant Stadium. The Raiders managed a 7-0 lead in the first quarter after scoring four catches, 65 yards along a touchdown.

However, the Steelers bounced back in the second quarter following a 72-yard touchdown from QB Kenny Pickett. They earned a 10-7 lead in the second quarter following a 43-yard field goal from Chris Boswell who later scored another goal to take a 13-7 lead. The kicker once more converted a 57-yard field on the way to a 16-7 lead for Pittsburgh.

The Raiders later cut the lead to 23-15 with nearly five minutes remaining in the game, and Daniel Carlson made a field goal with under three left on the clock to reduce the margin, albeit they had to digest a 23-18 defeat at the end.
