Carlos Sainz believes Ferrari “sacrificed” him for Charles Leclerc, alleging final pit stop cost him podium finish at Japanese GP

This season, Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz became the one to put an end to Red Bull’s dominance in the Singapore Grand Prix. As the son of a double World Rally Champion, Sainz was finally able to showcase his talent in the Singapore GP.

If we talk about team Ferrari’s coordination as a whole, so far Carlos and Leclerc had a special bond both off and on camera until the race in the Japanese GP, where the Spanish driver claimed to have sacrificed for his teammate.

Carlos Sainz reflects on Japanese GP decisions

While Carlos Sainz was happy with his performance in Sunday’s race, which took place at the Suzuka Circuit, the 29-year-old driver also expressed his worry in a Twitter post regarding his last stop.

He said, “I’m happy with my race pace after a difficult day yesterday.”

“It’s a shame about the last stop, which cost me the position.”

“In the end, they made the stop with Charles to secure the position, while I was sacrificed a bit.”

Both the drivers did an excellent job while trying to keep Lewis Hamilton between the two cars; however, the last two laps, Lewis outran the drivers, which resulted in Carlos being in the fifth position, due to which he is calling himself the “sacrifice” of the race to make it better for Leclerc.

Carlos Sainz’s relationship with Charles Leclerc

Rewinding to the past few months, there was an insane rumour, wildly spreading into social media which said that Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz are not getting along well.

However, this misconception was soon dismissed by the star driver, Leclerc himself by stated there was not any friction between their relationship.

“I am quite active on social media, so I see what’s been said all around, It’s blown out of proportion, I think, with Carlos. We have a great relationship. Outside the car, we know how to work together, and we get on well together because we share lots of interests,” he told Autosport.

“At the same time, there’s a lot of competitiveness between us two. But we are in Formula 1, and I love the sport because there’s competitiveness. I think it’s great to have that,” he added.”

However the recent incident of Carlos risking his position in the Japanese GP, thus claiming to be sacrificed in the race reignited those rumors.
