After Jets’ week 3 loss to Patriots, HOF quarterback Joe Namath brutally criticizes Zach Wilson’s “disgusting” play

Zach Wilson lost the opportunity to solidify his position as the starting quarterback of the New York Jets after Aaron Rodgers’ acquisition, albeit he miraculously restored the right following A-Rod’s injury in Week 1. However, as of now, the young star could do nothing remarkable to get labeled as Gang Green’s franchise QB.

The Jets, who were projected to earn a Lombardi trophy this year breaking their prolonged Super Bowl drought, are now struggling to save their face in the NFL. Joe Namath, former iconic signal-caller, has delivered some harsh words toward the Jets QB1 following the team’s recent loss against the New England Patriots.

Jets’ HOF QB Joe Namath brutally criticizes Zach Wilson’s “disgusting” play

The Jets’ defense has been top-class, but their offense has been pathetic as they have managed to convert just one first down within its first five possessions in their 10-15 loss to the Patriots. During a Monday appearance on The Michael Kay Show, the ex-NFL star couldn’t keep calm while calling out the QB for his first sack in the campaign.

“I didn’t take anything positive out of it. It was awful. You sit down? You sit down on a play? You go right down? What happened? I thought you’re trying to win and make plays. You quit on a play? What is going on? It’s disgusting”, he said.

The Jets enjoyed their only Super Bowl journey back in 1969, with Namath at the helm, and hence, he does not like how terribly his former team’s signal-caller is performing. When asked what he would like to do to boost the QB’s performance, the ex-Jets star said he would trade him to the Kansas City Chiefs to play as the backup of Patrick Mahomes.

“Send him to Kansas City to back up against somebody like [Patrick] Mahomes, maybe, and learn something. I wouldn’t keep him. I’ve seen enough of Zach Wilson, alright? I’ve seen enough. He has quick feet, can throw a little bit, but I don’t believe in what’s going on up there.”

The HOF also slammed the Jets head coach Robert Saleh and general manager Joe Douglas for failing to enroll the right players on the roster and suggested they restructure the squad to have a boost.

Robert Saleh claims QB Zach Wilson is not to blame for Jets’ week 3 defeat to Patriots

The Jets had seen no future in Wilson as a franchise QB in the near future, and hence, they did everything possible to acquire Rodgers. However, the veteran’s injury has once again led them to bank on the young star who had a record of struggling to move the ball with him.

Zach finished 18-for-36 for 157 yards along with three sacks in the last match. However, Saleh, known for favoring the 24-year-old star, is not ready to put all the allegations on the dual threat, and instead, labeled him as the team’s “unquestioned quarterback” while blaming the team effort for the loss. The HC also vowed to keep Wilson as the QB1 as long as he displays signs of improvement.

“He’s our unquestioned quarterback, guys. As long as he continues to show in his preparation, the way he’s been practicing and even in these games, guys. He’s not the reason we lost yesterday. It’s always a team effort. As long as he continues to show improvement, and I know from a box score standpoint it’s not showing, he’s going to be our quarterback.”

Saleh also credited Rodgers’ backup for having a turnover-free game against the Pats. Though the Vet highlighted the Jets’ struggle to adjust the offense amid A-Rod’s injury, he did not shed light on the discussion of the potential of adding a signal-caller this week, leaving the job for Douglas.

Gang Green will start their Sunday night against the Chiefs at MetLife Stadium. Do you think that Zach Wilson will be able to live up to his HC’s expectations? Tell us in the comments.
