“Who the hell is that guy”: Jon Jones fires back at Tom Aspinall by assessing Ciryl Gane anonymity

Jon Jones responded to Tom Aspinall’s challenge after the Briton’s remarkable and dominant victory. Jones acknowledged the hype surrounding Aspinall, who is being touted as the “next big thing” in the heavyweight division.

Aspinall’s dominant win over Marcin Tybura at UFC London Fight Night has sparked his ambition to face the biggest names in the heavyweight division. Fearlessly, the British heavyweight expressed his desire to step into the octagon with none other than Jon Jones.

Jon Jones responds to Tom Aspinall hype

Despite the impending high-profile matchup against Stipe Miocic, Jones has finally responded to Aspinall’s challenge. “Bones” acknowledged Aspinall’s aspirations but asserted that everyone is hailed as the “next big thing” until they step into the octagon with him.

The two-division UFC champion cited Cyril Gane as an example, highlighting how Gane was seen as a formidable opponent until Jones defeated him.

“All these guys are “the next big thing,” until i beat them. then, it becomes like.. “who was that guy again?” Just a few months ago, Gane was the absolute future of mma. the best footwork, the fastest heavyweight we’ve ever seen, the most athletic. Now everyone wonders who this guy is! ” Jones said.

Although the possibility of them facing each other is a subject of much speculation, one thing is clear: Aspinall has displayed tremendous courage by fearlessly calling out one of the greatest pound-for-pound fighters in UFC history.

Jones submitted Ciryl Gane in UFC 285

Jon, earlier in March, returned to the octagon after a long absence and proved his dominance once again by defeating Cyril Gane via submission during their UFC 285 showdown at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Despite nearly three years away from the sport, Jones showcased a level of skill and ferocity that was unmatched. The fight started with Jones asserting his dominance, appearing like a true king of the jungle—larger, fiercer, and seemingly indestructible.

Within just two minutes of the bout, the 35-year-old fighter had Gane on the ground, quickly applying a guillotine choke that forced his opponent to submit, resembling a helpless deer trapped in the jungle.

Jones’ return to the UFC was not merely to fill in for Francis Ngannou as the heavyweight champion as originally, the heavyweight battle was supposed to be between Bon Gamin and The Predator. The UFC president saw this as an opportunity to give his most reliable fighter a chance to showcase his MMA prowess once again.
