The Denver Broncos are 0-3 after losing consecutive games in the first three weeks of the 2023 NFL season. While defeat against the Las Vegas Raiders (16-17), and Washington Commanders (33-35) didn’t embarrass them severely, the loss against the Miami Dolphins (20-70) would surely haunt them in nights for many years.
The Broncos’ offense did a terrible job in creating havoc on the rival’s squad as well as protecting their quarterback Russell Wilson, which has made Sean Payton’s first season in Denver challenging. However, the team is now considering adding a veteran weapon on the offensive line to prepare for the upcoming games.
Broncos seek offensive upgrade with Tre’Quan Smith
According to 9 News Denver’s Mike Klis, the Broncos are eyeing to acquire former New Orleans Saints star Tre’Quan Smith to bolster their offense. The wide receiver is expected to undergo a physical and visit the franchise’s facility in Denver on Wednesday, and if everything goes well, he will soon be seen wearing the Broncos’ jersey.
The veteran has been released from the New Orleans injured reserve list after being unable to play the first three games for them due to a groin issue. He also missed most of the sessions during the team’s training camp. He was selected by then-Saints coach Payton in the third round of the 2018 draft and played four seasons under his guidance. The Broncos already have Jerry Jeudy, Courtland Sutton, Lil’Jordan Humphrey, and Brandon Johnson in their receiving corps.
Dolphins hand Denver Broncos a humiliating defeat
In their Week 3 campaign against the Dolphins, the Broncos had to digest a 70-point loss, the most points any team in the league has scored since the Washington Commanders scored 72 against the New York Giants back in 1966. The Miami-based team also had the chance to beat the Commanders’ record as, with 33 seconds remaining, they had the chance to score a field goal.
However, as directed by head coach Mike McDaniel, they decided to kneel down at the Broncos’ 28-yard line to avoid Denver’s “bad karma”, as stated by Tyreek Hill. The Dolphins fans might be thrilled to witness how their team put up 726 yards to make a new franchise record. They recorded 350 rushing yards, and 376 passing yards, while averaging 10.2 yards per play in the campaign.
Their signal-caller Tua Tagovailoa completed 23 of 26 passes for 309 yards along with four touchdowns. Running back De’Von Achane contributed with 203 yards on 18 carries and scored four TDs, while another RB Raheem Mostert added three TDs and 82 yards on 13 carries, along with a receiving TD.
