Louisiana Tech LB Brevin Randle outrages NCAA football community by stomping on fallen UTEP player’s neck

The NCAA football teams are gearing up for week 5 of the season. The Louisiana Tech Bulldogs, who are attempting to bounce back from a two-game losing streak, headed out on the road to play against the UTEP Miners on Friday at the Sun Bowl.

Besides the on-field excitement, sports enthusiasts often witness some mischievous acts of the players, and one such incident happened in the match when Bulldogs linebacker Brevin Randle did something controversial on the field that angered fans.

During the second quarter of the Conference USA showdown between Louisiana Tech and UTEP on Friday, Randle stepped on the neck of Steven Hubbard, a Miners offensive lineman, while multiple players were chasing a fumble from Miner signal-caller Jake McNamara.

Officials were busy determining which team had possession in the scrum and completely overlooked the incident. Consequently, Randle went unpunished, although CBS Sports cameras later captured Hubbard being stomped on his neck and groaning in pain as a result of this inhumane act.

However, the UTEP coach Dana Dimel noticed the incident and called out instantly, albeit his call was not granted.

“The referee, who I really admire, came over at halftime and very gentlemanly said that he missed it. That’s part of the game. He (the official) was a class act, I really appreciated that.”

The incident also drew the attention of former UTEP icon Aaron Jones. The Green Bay Packers running back took to the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, to share his thoughts, saying there should be no place for such brutality in football. NFL fans on social media also expressed their anger upon witnessing the incident and called for a long-term suspension for the young star, which he is very likely to face soon.

NCAA Football: Louisiana Tech vs. UTEP

In the first quarter of the match, the Louisiana Tech’s Tyre Shelton and Smoke Harris scored two touchdowns, giving their team a 14-0 lead. UTEP’s Jake McNamara managed to score a touchdown in the second quarter, bringing the score to 7-14. However, Louisiana Tech extended their lead to 17-7 at the end of the second quarter with a field goal by Jacob Barnes. In the third quarter, UTEP’s Buzz Flabiano recorded a 36-yard field goal, but the Bulldogs’ Tru Edwards scored a touchdown in the fourth quarter, securing a 24-10 victory for his team.

UTEP recorded 321 total yards, with 101 passing yards and 220 rushing yards, averaging 4.3 yards per play. On the other hand, Louisiana Tech scored 294 total yards, including 152 passing yards and 141 rushing yards, with an average of 5.8 yards per play. What are your thoughts on this game?
