Being a wonderful solution for the Dallas Cowboys’ quarterback ‘problem’ for seven seasons, their veteran player Dak Prescott seems to have cemented his position in the team’s roster as well as in the heart of the team management and fans.
The Cowboys team has already established itself as one of the best contenders in the league. Yet the team has unfortunately not managed to secure the much-coveted Lombardy Trophy. The owner of the team, Jerry Jones in this regard, wants one of his major stars to take charge.
Jerry Jones backs Dak Prescott’s Super Bowl success
When the Dallas Cowboys selected Prescott in the 2016 NFL draft, they probably had no idea that one day the player would be in charge of guiding the squad. He has shown his athletic abilities throughout the year, and upon close observation, the team owner, at last, seems to have found a glimmer of hope to raise the Super Bowl.
The Cowboys had a record of 12-5 at the end of the regular season going 8-1 at home and 4-4 away. Jones stressed the importance of hard effort during the news conference for the training camp adding that the players must work hard.
“I certainly think—and came to camp with the idea in mind—that if we can have the kind of camp we wanna have, that we’ve got a team that can compete for the top spot. I don’t want to understate that, for sure,” Jerry Jones said during the training camp press conference.
Although the Dallas Cowboys have won the Super Bowl five times, their ‘most recent’ triumph was in 1996.
After a mediocre season, Jerry believes that this year they will compete for every major position and have a fantastic sense of fighting for the Super Bowl while retaining Prescott at the helm. The owner looks confident that the quarterback can take Dallas back to the Super Bowl because of his tremendous leadership abilities and impeccable work ethic,
“There’s a lot of work to be done because we’re gonna play a lot of young players. But I think when you weigh it, you weigh where we’ve evolved over the last two or three years with our defense, you look at some of the talents we’ve got, you look at Dak [Prescott]. When I look at all those things, I think we’ve got a chance to be a contender.”
How many years are left on Dak Prescott’s contract?
In 2021 Prescott agreed to a four-year, $160 million contract with guaranteed payments of $126 million. The contract states that the 29-year-old is committed to Dallas for two more years through 2024.
Although an extension would keep him beyond the following two seasons, the Dallas star is expected to become a free agent after the 2024 season. According to overthecap.com, his current contract structure includes unavoidable years in 2025 and 2026 that will cause his team to incur salary cap hits of $52.1 million in 2024 and $49.1 million in 2023.
As Jones appears to have discovered his ideal Super Bowl recipe in Dak, it’s possible that they won’t think twice about keeping him locked into the team until the Super Bowl dream becomes a reality.
