At 36 years of age, Novak Djokovic remains in the center stage, as he continues to obliterate each of his opponents on the court. The reigning supreme has gotten all his name on countless records and has made so much history within the world of tennis. Now while the Djoker wishes to procure every title he possibly could before he leaves the court for good, his father has other plans for him.
Having made his name in the media several times for his own share of controversies, Srdjan Djokovic is the father of the tennis legend. Fathers are known to dream big and simultaneously protect their children as well. Looks like Srdjan is doing just that as he speaks about his wishes for his son to retire soon.
Djokovic’s father sheds light on Tennis star’s retirement
Novak Djokovic just dealt with one of the most emotional defeats of his career. The former world number 1 had so much of his career on the line with the Wimbledon finals and his loss led to an emotional exit. Right after this match, speculations rose about the end of Djokovic’s career and retirement.
While the Serbinator has assured everyone that he will be back stronger and claim more Grand Slam, his father says that this is enough. Srdjan is surely proud of his son as he says that Nole had fulfilled all of his wishes from seven to eight years old but also feels that it has taken up too much of his son.
Srdjan said, “It’s not the end, but in a year-and-a-half let’s say… My wish as a father – I think for some time that he should have stopped working this extremely difficult job… It’s physically and mentally challenging and very demanding – with him being fully dedicated for 30 years, and not taking his foot off the gas, there is not much time for other things in life.”
Djokovic is the oldest player in the top 40 of the world and he continues to be one of the most powerful of them all. As tennis can be physically and mentally draining, the father hopes that his kid can finally rest.
He also added: “Tennis is only one segment of his life, not his whole life, I expect him to be recognized for the things he will do after his career ends as well after he leaves the tennis world, which I hope it will happen next year.”
Novak Djokovic has withdrawn from the National Bank Open
After the Wimbledon final match that physically and emotionally juiced the Serbinator, he was seen to take a much-needed family vacation. Following this, he also announced that he will not be playing in the National Bank Open due to fatigue. Djokovic said, “I have always enjoyed my time in Canada but after speaking with my team, we believe this is the right decision to take”.
The rest of the players are going to be preparing for the hardcourt surface US Open title but they will all know that the reigning supreme does not need any preparation to destroy them.
