The big man of the Los Angeles Lakers, Anthony Davis is one of the most athletic players in the NBA. He has a dominant presence on the court which combined with LeBron James makes the Lakers one of the most intimidating teams in the league.
The explosive power of Davis under the rim proves beneficial in tight situations and closely resembles the Bucks ace Giannis Antetokounmpo. Darvin Ham also recently pointed out the similarities between the Lakers big man and the Bucks star. On the other hand, Steve Kerr named Davis as the deciding factor in the departure of the Warriors last season.
Darvin Ham highlights Davis and Giannis’ common grounds
The head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers, Darvin Ham defined Anthony Davis as a player who resembles Giannis a lot. As reported by the LA Times, Ham said, “I view him as a hell of a basketball player — in the same way I viewed Giannis when I was in Milwaukee. Anthony Davis is of that type, where you just put him out there and he is going to figure it out. He has the physical tools and skills to do whatever he wants to on the basketball court.”
Coach Ham is not wrong in his description as both Giannis and Davis share a lot of similarities in terms of their style of play. They have proven to be elite-level players of championship quality. They share a similar physical build and have the versatility to score from anywhere on the court while also being useful in defense and collecting rebounds. Both are very dominant on the court leading the scoring charts and also act as defensive anchors for their respective teams.
Anthony Davis labeled as decisive factor in Warriors’ playoff departure
The Golden State Warriors paved the last NBA season on a good note with a nice record of 53-29 for the regular season. It is a good record for the third seed in the Western Conference, however, they were faced with disappointment in the playoffs as they were eliminated in the second round by the Los Angeles Lakers.
The head coach of the Warriors Steve Kerr applauded Anthony Davis on his performance that night. When asked about Davis he reportedly said, “I thought he was the key to the series last year. He was brilliant.” Davis displayed an exceptionally strong performance in the second round of the playoffs where the Lakers faced the Warriors.
The big man averaged 28.8 points and 11.7 rebounds in the series. He also had a stunning 40 points and 12 rebounds game in game 6 of the series which ultimately resulted in the Lakers advancing to the Western Conference finals and eliminating the Warriors from the competition in the playoffs.
