Dolphins C Mike McDaniel says RB DeVon Achane is being examined for a knee injury in NFL Week 5 win vs Giants

The Miami Dolphins advanced to 4-1 after defeating the New York Giants 31-16 in week 5, and rookie star De’Von Achane deserves credit for it. The young running back got an extended role in the week 3 game against the Denver Broncos and played a crucial role behind Miami’s 70-20 win against them.

Achane’s stellar performance against the Broncos even earned him the title of AFC offensive player of the week, and as of now, he made substantial impact in the Dolphins’ formidable offense. However, seemingly his breakout season is going to suffer a blow as the Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel has an update about his potential injury.

Dolphins RB DeVon Achane is being evaluated for a knee injury

During the Dolphins’ win over the Giants on Sunday, Devon Achane had his right leg twisted up, before leaving the field for a while and eventually coming back for a third-down play. While talking with the reporters on Monday, HC McDaniel said he didn’t know how the rookie star got injured in the game, but ensured he sustained a knee injury in the campaign.

He also said the rookie star is being evaluated for a clear insight about it.

“What he’s kind of dealing with, it’s more of his knee, and we’re evaluating it. More information as it goes.”

However, the coach sounded pretty cool about the incident as when asked if the RB is undergoing an MRI for his knee injury, Mike had a hilarious response.

“There’s various things that he’s undergoing, handshakes as well, high fives. I think from all accounts he had a good breakfast and lunch.”

Dolphins HC was also asked if the Texas native could miss Sunday’s game against the Carolina Panthers, and he didn’t provide any clear answer for that saying the decision would be taken after thorough evaluation of the injury.

What is rookie DeVon Achane’s contract with the Dolphins?

DeVon got selected by the Dolphins at No. 84 overall in the third round of the 2023 NFL Draft and later signed a 4-year $5,437,449 contract, including a $954,508 signing bonus along with $954,508 in guaranteed, and an average annual salary of $1,359,362. He will count a base salary of $750,000 along with a cap hit of $988,627 in the 2023 season.

By signing the contract, the 21-year-old immediately became the Dolphins’ No. 3 RB right now behind Raheem Mostert and Salvon Ahmed on the depth chart. After scoring one reception and one carry in his limited appearance in the first two games, he got the opportunity to showcase a phenomenal performance due to Ahmed’s injury.

In the week 5 match against the Giants, he ran for 151 yards and a touchdown on 11 carries. By scoring at least 100 rushing yards in back-to-back three matches, the back became only the fourth rookie in franchise history to reach the milestone.
