Red Bull is going through a rollercoaster of experiences as the two drivers’ performances are polar opposites of each other. While Max Verstappen was crowned with his third title in Qatar, Sergio Perez was seen to deliver disastrous performances throughout the season.
As a result, the Mexican driver was warned strictly by Red Bull’s boss, as many capable drivers were already waiting for his position.
Verstappen urges F1 to rethink Qatar GP timing
The rising humidity of the country has made many drivers pass out, with several of them taken to medical centers as their health severely deteriorated over time.
The three-time World Champion, therefore, confirms that the fitness of the drivers had nothing to do with the incidents.
He said, “When I saw the weather before coming here, I was not looking forward to it, it’s just too warm, and as Lando said, it has nothing to do with more training or whatever.”
“I think some of the guys who were struggling are extremely fit, probably even fitter than me, but just the whole day it’s like you’re walking around in a sauna. And also then in the night, the humidity goes up.”
“The races are quite long, but it’s not the only place. There are a few places like that. I think Singapore is almost like a two-hour race and it’s very, very warm. I think it’s also quite on the limit of what is what should be allowed. So there are a few things to look at. But this was way too hot.”
He also suggested that it was “silly” to continue the races despite the harsh weather in the country. Verstappen believes that to ensure the safety of the driver, the race schedule of the Qtar Grand Prix needs to be shifted back two months to 2024.
He said to Sky Sports: “When it’s 40 degrees out there during the day, I think it’s silly to to be pushing like this, especially with forced three-stops.”
“It’s almost like a qualifying out there all the time, like really pushing flat out. And that’s probably a bit extreme out there.”
Red Bull boss demands improved performance from Sergio Perez
Sergio Perez has failed to impress the audience by causing mishaps this season. Although his contract does not expire at the end of 2024, Helmut Marko warns Mexican that his overall performance is affecting the team a lot, and many skilled drivers such as Liam Lawson, and Daniel Ricciardo are already waiting in line for him to retire or him to back out from his position early.
Marko told ORF: “In general we want to implement the contractual situation, which lasts until 2024. And that’s entirely up to him now.”
“But then we have three relatively good drivers in AlphaTauri.”
