With an effort to take their mark to 4-1, the Dallas Cowboys entered their week 5 contest against the undefeated San Francisco 49ers. Instead of stretching the winning streak, they went down to San Francisco by a final score of 42-10, and as usual, quarterback Dak Prescott had to take all the blame for it.
With this 32-point defeat, the Cowboys now dropped to 3-2 on the season. While Prescott has nothing to defend himself after showcasing a terrible performance, the former NFL star Deion Sanders has come forward to deliver inspiring words for the signal-caller ahead of Dallas’ upcoming game against the Los Angeles Chargers on Monday Night Football in Week 6.
Deion Sanders talks about Dak Prescott’s poor form
Following the Cowboys’ recent loss against the 49ers, Dak has once again become in the negative limelight. During a recent appearance on CW’s Inside the NFL with Chad Johnson and Ryan Clark, Sanders revealed he actually emphasizes the quarterback for being forced to receive such criticism saying he believes the Cowboys star can do much more than that.
“I felt bad for Dak, I really did. I felt bad for Dak, because I think Dak is better than that.”
However, the veteran was not seemingly happy with the performance of some of the players. He said some Dallas players possess immense potential, but they didn’t showcase the caliber on the field.
“The Cowboys have guys that are supposed to be dogs. Do you remember when we went to school and the teacher called your name and you said ‘here,’ I need you [Cowboys players] to say ‘here.’ Say something.”
The two-time Super Bowl is now very busy with his coaching job in Colorado and is focusing solely on the collegiate gridiron, albeit he revealed he couldn’t miss this pro game.
“That was something to behold, what I watched on television. I don’t watch the pro game much because I am into the college game, but I had to see that [matchup].”
The Cowboys starter is torn apart by the NFL community as most recently ex-NFL safety Donte Whitner bashed him saying he in no way looks like a franchise quarterback, and also delivered some profane words for him. However, Sanders stayed positive and said Dak holds the potential to bounce back stronger.
Dak Prescott’s underwhelming start to NFL season
In the week 5 match against the 49ers, the Cowboys poor offense gave up a season-high 42 points and 421 yards. The O-line that ranked third in total yards and fourth in scoring offense in the 2022 season, is now 18th in total yards and eighth in scoring offense after week 5.
Meanwhile, their QB1 showcased his worst game of the season by going 14-of-24 passing for 153 yards along with a touchdown and a season-high three interceptions. His inability to connect with the receivers downfield was visible, and this poor effort urged the team to score a season-low 197 yards.
The 30-year-old was pulled in the fourth quarter of the match against San Francisco, but that was already out of Dallas’ hand. He averaged only over 225 passing yards per game while recording only four touchdown passes throughout the first four weeks of the season. This stat doesn’t look for a franchise quarterback, but the Cowboys will seemingly give their veteran a few more chances before thinking about something else.
