The poor results, coupled with some high-profile injuries and distracting off-field issues, have led to rumors that Anthony Martial may be on his way out of Old Trafford after finding scarce regular minutes to come by. The ex-Cristiano Ronaldo teammate has become a fringe player this season, with Ten Hag preferring Rasmus Hojlund over the Frenchman.
Martial contemplates United departure over limited play
According to Apex Football, Anthony Martial sees the summer of 2024 as the perfect time to get his move away from Manchester United as his contract expires next year, and he can go elsewhere for free.
The former Monaco man has struggled to nail down a regular place, and despite playing under four permanent managers at the club – Louis van Gaal, Jose Mourinho, Ole Gunnar Solksjaer, and Erik Ten Hag – Martial has found it difficult to establish himself as a Premier League star.
Martial spent a season on loan at Sevilla but struggled in Spain as well, and his return to Manchester United has been a similar story. Despite having the trust of Erik Ten Hag, who continues to believe in Martial’s quality, the Frenchman is now reportedly looking to move away from Old Trafford in search of regular playing time elsewhere.
Manchester United signed Anthony Martial from Monaco in 2015 as part of the new-generation attack. The Frenchman looked like an instant hit at Old Trafford, scoring on his debut against Liverpool as he dazzled past Martin Skrtel before finishing low into the corner. This goal announced his talents to the Old Trafford faithful, but it was not to be for Martial.
Manchester United star’s failed summer move to Real Madrid
Real Madrid lost Karim Benzema to Al-Ittihad in the Saudi Pro League last July, prompting them to make a move to replace the French striker with Martial, according to reports. Sadly, the move failed to materialise as Martial decided to stay at Old Trafford.
Madrid re-signed 33-year-old Joselu from Espanyol on loan, but Jude Bellingham has been the one scoring all the goals for the Los Blancos. The former Borussia Dortmund midfielder won the La Liga POTM in August and hasn’t stopped scoring for Carlo Ancelotti’s side since then.
